Pyramid Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Tech Lead – Java (AWS) for a 6+ month onsite contract in Irving, TX. You will own the architecture and technical roadmap for Java services on AWS, designing scalable microservices and secure APIs.

The role requires 10+ years of software engineering, 7+ years Java backend, and strong leadership. You will drive CI/CD, IaC, and guide engineers through Agile delivery.

Qualifications

Job description

Immediate need for a talented Tech Lead – Java (AWS). This is a 06+months contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in Irving, TX (Onsite).

Pay Range: $60/hr - $65/hour. Employee benefits include, but are not limited to, health insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave (depending on work location).

Key Responsibilities:

• Own the architecture and technical roadmap for Java services on AWS.
• Design and build scalable, secure, and resilient microservices and APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
• Write production code on critical paths, lead design and code reviews, and set the bar for code quality and testing.
• Make AWS architecture decisions balancing reliability, security, and cost.
• Drive CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and observability practices.
• Manage engineers through regular 1:1s, goal setting, performance reviews, and career development.
• Collaborate with product, architecture, security, and business stakeholders to prioritize backlogs.
• Run predictable Agile/Scrum delivery, including sprint planning and releases.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience:

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 7 years building backend systems in Java.
• 2 years managing engineers with direct reports, including performance reviews and career development.
• Deep expertise in modern Java (17) and Spring Boot, including REST API design, Spring Data, and Spring Security.
• 3 years designing, building, and running production systems on AWS (e.g., ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB).
• Strong microservices and distributed systems design, including event-driven architecture and resiliency patterns.
• Solid relational and NoSQL database skills (e.g., PostgreSQL or Oracle, DynamoDB).
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD (Jenkins, GitHub Actions), containers (Docker, Kubernetes/ECS), and automated testing (JUnit, Mockito).
• Proven track record of delivering complex, production-grade projects end to end in an Agile environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• AWS certification (Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional, or Developer – Associate).
• Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation).
• Familiarity with event streaming (Kafka, Amazon MSK, or Kinesis).
• Experience modernizing monolithic applications or leading migrations to AWS.
• Background in retail, e-commerce, or payments at high transaction volumes.
