The Engineering team works on multiple digital properties at Fortune: from the editorial website, conferences, Fortune Recommends and others. Our goal is to launch new products to build on our core competencies of content, events and education, in order to diversify our revenue streams; and to improve the experience and monetization of existing properties.

Fortune Media is seeking a highly motivated and talented Tech Lead/Engineering Manager (Hybrid Role) to join our team. This exciting position offers a unique opportunity to combine strong hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, leading high-impact projects while simultaneously mentoring and developing a team of engineers.

As a Tech Lead/Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Lead and mentor junior engineers: Guide and mentor junior team members on best practices, code quality, and professional development.
  • Conduct performance reviews: Provide constructive feedback, set performance goals, and guide career development for team members.
  • Drive technical excellence: Champion high-quality software development practices, including code reviews, testing, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD).
  • Lead large-scale projects: Take ownership of complex projects, defining technical roadmaps, and leading cross-functional teams to successful delivery.
  • Revenue-focused development: Align engineering efforts with business goals, focusing on projects that deliver measurable ROI and drive revenue growth.
  • Data-driven decision making: Leverage data and analytics to inform technical decisions, track project progress, and measure the impact of engineering initiatives.
  • Contribute to the design and architecture of scalable and maintainable software systems.
  • Maintain a strong individual contributor role: Continue to actively participate in coding, design, and implementation of key software components.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with backend technologies (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java)
  • Familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS) and their integrations
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles (e.g., design patterns, object-oriented programming)
  • Proven experience leading and mentoring junior engineers
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience with agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools
  • Experience with project management tools (Jira, Asana)
  • Contributions to open-source projects

We will tailor the specific level of this role (e.g., Lead, Principle, Senior Principle, Manager, Senior Manager) based on years of relevant experience, your demonstrated technical expertise, experience with large-scale system design, leadership qualities, and communication skills as assessed during the interview process.

  • Be a part of a world-renowned media organization with a rich history.
  • Work on challenging projects with a significant impact on a global audience.
  • Collaborate with a talented and passionate team.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development.

If you are a passionate software engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to contribute to the future of digital media, we encourage you to apply!

Total Compensation Ranges (base salary & bonus):

Tech Lead/Engineering Manager hybrid role: $119,000.00 - $213,000.00 plus 10-15% of a discretionary annual Bonus

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way.
