Job summary

Asana is seeking a Technical Lead for the AI Teammates Platform in San Francisco. You will shape the technical strategy, architecture, and execution across backend systems, tool orchestration, and platform APIs, partnering with frontier AI providers to deliver scalable, reliable solutions.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, and User Research, and drive high-impact initiatives while ensuring safety and maintainability as you scale with evolving LLMs.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience in large codebases.
• 2+ years leading engineering teams or serving as a technical lead.
• Experience or deep interest in Applied AI / Agentic Systems.
• Rapidly unblock teammates and adapt between codebases and contexts.
• Strong program management including timeline planning and risk mitigation.
• Mentoring engineers across skill levels and fostering growth.
• Commitment to an inclusive culture and psychological safety.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical strategy for the AI Teammates execution engine, tool orchestration, and platform APIs.
• Drive the team to improve architecture, reliability, and evaluation methodologies while maintaining high velocity.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, and User Research to understand agentic work patterns and potential solutions.
• Partner with external model providers (OpenAI, Anthropic) to represent platform capabilities.
• Architect and own the composable platform foundation for self-serve capabilities.
• Oversee high-impact initiatives including proactivity, MCP integrations, model evals, latency tuning, and cost optimization.
