Job purpose
The Tech Lead provides technical leadership and direction for our engineering team, guiding project delivery while mentoring and growing team members. This role is expected to bring strong working knowledge of AI tools and technologies, actively use AI-assisted development tools to improve team output and code quality, and model a habit of continuous, self-directed learning to keep the team's AI knowledge and practices current as the technology evolves.
Duties and responsibilities
Main Responsibilities:
- Turn product and business requirements into scoped, sequenced engineering plans, and set realistic daily/weekly/monthly delivery targets.
- Review code and pair with engineers on technical decisions — catching design and quality issues early rather than after launch.
- Champion AI-assisted development day to day: set team norms for using tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude, and ChatGPT responsibly and effectively, and track whether they're actually improving velocity and code quality.
- Spot project risk early and build contingency plans before schedules slip.
- Run retros and process reviews, identify recurring bottlenecks, and pilot concrete fixes rather than general process talk.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact across engineering, product, and client-facing teams — including writing progress updates and presenting to stakeholders.
- Mentor engineers through influence, not authority, while this role has no direct reports — you're expected to grow into managing developers as the team scales.
- Track emerging AI and developer tooling, and bring what you learn back to the team through demos, short write-ups, or working sessions.
