Job summary

Universal Orlando seeks an Audio Technician to ensure high-quality audio for live shows, events, and venues. You will operate digital consoles, manage monitors, and coordinate closely with show staff to deliver optimal guest experiences.

Required are at least 2 years in audio or a related technical discipline, knowledge of low-voltage wiring, audio connectors, and mic placement. Preferred are related certifications and experience in entertainment venues or theme parks.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the technical discipline.
  • Fundamental knowledge of low-voltage wiring, audio connectors, console signal flow, mic placement, and basic computer skills.
  • Preferred experience in a professional theme park/theater environment or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Operate audio equipment for the assigned venue, project, or event, including a digital console and monitors for live shows.
  • Assist in installation, setup, strike, storage, and maintenance of audio equipment; escalate issues to Lead as needed.
  • Take direction from Lead to complete team objectives and maintain inventory of venue audio gear.
  • Communicate internally regarding technical problems and concerns.
  • Follow Environmental, Health & Safety policies and participate in related activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides the technical skills needed for the successful operation of audio elements for assigned Entertainment venue, project, or event, to ensure highest levels of show quality and a positive guest experience.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for the operation of the audio equipment within the assigned venue, project, or event. To include operation of digital audio console and equipment for a small/medium live show or event with monitors and tracked performances.
  • Responsible for assisting in the appropriate installation/setup, strike, storage, and maintenance of audio equipment. Elevates any technical problems or concerns to Lead as they occur.
  • Takes direction from Lead to complete team objectives as assigned, such as assembly/testing/prepping of audio equipment. Maintains venue or event specific inventory of all audio equipment.
  • Communicates internally regarding technical problems, issues, and/or concerns.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
  • Technical school, Associate degree, or Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience within the assigned technical discipline.
  • Fundamental knowledge of basic low-voltage wiring, standard audio connectors, basic console signal flow/operation, basic microphone placement/technique, and computer skills including Microsoft office.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience within the professional theme park/theater industry in a technical capacity; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Preferred:

  • QSYS Level I
  • Dante Level I
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Required:

  • Knowledge of basic low voltage wiring, standard audio connectors, basic console signal flow/operation, basic system signal flow/set-up, and knowledge of basic mic placement techniques.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Digital audio console (Yamaha CL series, QL series, Digico SD9, SD10, Midas M32).
  • Knowledge of the proper usage of professional wireless microphones (Shure, Sennheiser, etc.).
