Job summary

City of Greensboro, NC seeks an Electronics Process Technician to maintain electronic and process control systems across water treatment facilities and distribution networks. Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent experience in electrical or mechanical fields.
• Two-year trade school in related fields or military electronics experience is acceptable.
• Certified Control Systems Technician Level I and electrical license are preferred within 18 months.

Responsibilities

• Maintain plant and distribution system electronic processes and equipment.
• Troubleshoot analog and digital electronic systems.
• Maintain radio transmission and communications systems.
• Work with water quality instrumentation and process monitoring equipment.
• Maintain instrumentation and sensors for level, pH, temperature, residuals, flow.
• Support SCADA and other computer-based process control systems.
• Perform mechanical and electrical duties to sustain reliable process control.
• Troubleshoot and maintain pumps, motors, wiring, lighting, chemical systems, valve actuators.
• Work with medium- and low-voltage electrical systems.
• Diagnose equipment issues and restore operation.
• Collaborate with Water Resources operations, maintenance, engineering, and staff.

About the Role

As an Electronics Process Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining the electronic and process control systems used throughout the City's water treatment facilities and distribution system. The position requires a broad technical background and the ability to troubleshoot and maintain both electronic and mechanical/electrical equipment supporting overall process control.

Key responsibilities include:

• Maintaining plant and distribution system electronic processes and equipment.
• Troubleshooting and servicing analog and digital electronic systems.
• Maintaining radio transmission equipment and communications systems.
• Working with water quality instrumentation and process monitoring equipment.
• Maintaining instrumentation and sensors used to measure level, pH, temperature, residuals, flow, and chemical pacing.
• Supporting computer-based process control systems, including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
• Performing mechanical and electrical duties as needed to maintain reliable process control.
• Troubleshooting and maintaining equipment associated with pumps, motors, wiring, lighting, chemical systems, and valve actuators.
• Working with medium- and low-voltage electrical systems and process equipment.
• Diagnosing equipment issues and applying sound technical judgment to restore reliable operation.
• Working collaboratively with Water Resources operations, maintenance, engineering, and other technical staff.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate's Degree
• "OR" an equivalency of a High School Diploma and 7+ years of electrical or mechanical experience.
• "OR" Completion of two year Trade School for industrial electronics, Process Control Instrumentation, or Mechatronics. Military Career with a highly skilled electronics-based MOS.
• Valid Driver's License
• 7+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
• Grade C NC Surface WTFO ("Or obtain within 18 months of hire date")
• Certified Control Systems Technician Level I
• NC Limited Electrical License ("OR" the ability to obtain within 18 months of hire date)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience troubleshooting and Repair skills for variable speed motor drives.
• Experience reading blueprints, pipe layouts, and electrical diagrams
• Programming & troubleshooting experience for Programmable Logic Controllers.
