Job summary

Washington County Government is seeking an Electronics Technician to maintain, repair, inspect, design and install instrumentation for water and wastewater facilities. Responsibilities include calibration, troubleshooting and system optimization for field and shop equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two-year degree in advanced electronics.
• Five years of increasingly responsible experience in maintenance, repair, fabrication and installation of instrumentation systems in water/wastewater is desirable.
• Substantial coursework in water/wastewater electronics and electricity is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Install instrumentation systems related to electronics, instrumentation control, telemetry and related subsystems.
• Record and verify measurements from flow, temperature, pressure and related devices.
• Participate in fabrication, mounting and wiring of systems and devices.
• Maintain calibration, configuration control and records; recommend calibration intervals.
• Design and repair instrumentation systems and components in field and shop.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctioning systems and calibration problems.
• Modify and implement control circuits and temporary systems to sustain operations.
• Ensure safe and reliable power to all electronic processes.
• Maintain records of operations and prepare reports on data.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

To maintain, repair, inspect, plan, modify, design, installand calibrate instrumentation and control systems for water and wastewater facilities; to maintain and repair water/wastewater related process equipment,and computer interface software and equipment.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS/TYPICALTASKS:

1. Installinstrumentationsystemsrelatedtoelectronics,instrumentationcontrol,telemetry, telecommunications, hydraulics, pneumatics and a variety of other systems.
2. Recordandverifyaccuracyof flow, temperature, pressureandothermeasuring, recordingand transmitting devices associated with water wastewater facilities.
3. Participateinthefabrication,mountingandwiringofsystemsanddevices.
4. Maintain calibration, configuration control, preventive maintenance, and system integrity records; recommendcalibrationintervals;perform routinealignmentandcalibrationonelectronicequipment.
5. Design andrepairinstrumentationsystems,equipmentandcomponents,both in the fieldand inthe shop.
6. Diagnose,troubleshoot,updateand repairmalfunctioningsystemsandequipment,calibration problems and other measuring, recording and transmitting device failures.
7. Modify,design,andchangecontrolcircuits,installtemporarysystemstosustainoperations.
8. Ensuresafeandreliablepowertoallelectronicprocesses.
9. Modifyandimplementcomputersoftwareprogramsfordataloggingandcontrol.

3. Minimumoffive yearsofincreasinglyresponsibleexperienceinthemaintenance,repair,fabrication and installation of instrumentation systems in a water/wastewater treatment system desirable.
4. Substantialcourseworkinwater/wastewaterelectronicsandelectricityishighlydesirable.

PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS:

This is sometimesheavywork requiring theexertion of 100poundsofforce occasionally, up to50pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitivemotions.Vocalcommunication is required forexpressingorexchanging ideas by means of spoken word.Hearing is required toperceive information atnormalspoken word levels.Visual acuity is required for color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms’ length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions and oils. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
