We are Whitebox, and we believe investing can be fun, simple, and low-risk. Whitebox has started to make digital wealth management accessible to everyone and tailored to individual needs while keeping asset management simple, transparent, and inexpensive.

About Whitebox

Whitebox is one of the leading digital wealth managers in Germany. We are a rapidly growing company with flat hierarchies, short decision-making processes, and a strong emphasis on personal responsibility among our employees. Our globally distributed and highly qualified software engineering team is dedicated to revolutionizing the financial markets.

Joining this team will place you at the forefront of fintech innovation. You will have the opportunity to scale a top-tier product, ultimately driving significant value for the business. Most importantly, your work will help shape the future of the financial services landscape.

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Platform Engineer with a demonstrated passion for technology. As a Platform Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining the foundational platforms and tools that enable our product teams to develop, deploy, and operate our software efficiently and reliably. You’ll focus on creating a scalable and secure platform that abstracts infrastructure complexity, streamlines workflows, and improves developer experience.

This role requires deep technical expertise, a product-thinking mindset, and the ability to work autonomously in a distributed environment. You will collaborate closely with developers and other platform team members to deliver solutions that empower teams to move fast with confidence, and you will play a crucial role in ensuring the stability, security, and scalability of our infrastructure.

You will be part of an agile, distributed engineering team and play a key role in shaping the technical foundation that supports our mission: We empower thousands of people to improve their financial future.

Requirements
  • 7+ years of experience as a DevOps, Site Reliability, or Platform Engineer, focusing on managing and optimizing cloud environments.
  • 5+ years of experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in a production environment.
  • Thorough experience with containerization and container orchestration using Docker, Kubernetes, or Helm.
  • Thorough experience building CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or others.
  • Thorough experience with Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation.
  • Solid understanding of networking, cloud security, and modern infrastructure best practices.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation with Bash and Python.
  • Strong product mindset with a focus on usability, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to interact with technical and non-technical team members.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to gather requirements and translate them into scalable platform solutions.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently as part of a distributed team.
Must have

The senior role is intended to take the technical leadership in this project. Apart from solid technical experience in the required technologies over many years, we expect excellent communication skills to discuss technical topics, which is crucial in a remote setup.

Nice to have
  • Experience with implementing GitOps practices and tooling.
  • Experience with network tools such as iptables, traceroute, ping, nmap, netstat, or tcpdump.
  • Experience with provisioning tools like Chef, Ansible, puppet, salt, and others.
  • Familiarity with service mesh technologies like Istio or Linkerd.
  • Familiarity with observability frameworks like Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Strong expertise in relational database administration, including performance tuning, backup and recovery strategies, and database security.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a solid understanding of cross-platform issues.
  • Passion for documentation, operational excellence, and DevEx innovation.
  • Passion for company-wide security, with a strong desire to promote and implement security best practices across the organization.
  • Passion for taking responsibility and driving growth in a product company.
