Overall Job Summary

This position is responsible for interacting with customers and team members, supporting selling initiatives, and performing assigned tasks while providing legendary customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

As a Team Member, it is essential that you be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented, capable of fulfilling all of the following requirements:

• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Work scheduled shifts with the ability to work varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
• Support selling initiatives (TEAM):
  • Thank the Customer
  • Engage with the customer and/or pet
  • Advise on products or services
  • Make it Memorable
• Perform a variety of duties during 95% of the workday, including but not limited to:
• Operate cash register/computer following established cash handling procedures
• Recover merchandise
• Participate in freight processing
• Complete Plan-o-gram procedures
• Assemble merchandise
• Perform janitorial duties
• Execute price changes/markdowns
• Assist customers with loading purchases
• Ensure the safety and well-being of live animals, sanitize and maintain holding tanks, and care for live animals as required
• Complete all related documentation
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Experience: No experience required. Retail experience and/or pet/live animal knowledge is preferred.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required. Must be able to read, write, and count accurately regardless of education level.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

• Pet/live animal, pet food, and pet product knowledge is strongly preferred.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with minimal conflict resolution.

Working Conditions

• Generally indoor environment with moderate noise.
• Hard surfaces in indoor floors and outdoor lots; adequate lighting and temperature.
• Work shifts typically no less than 4 hours, may exceed 8 hours.
• Maintain a safe and productive environment following safety guidelines.

Physical Requirements

• Non-sedentary role requiring movement throughout the store and outdoor areas.
• Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
• Occasionally lift or reach overhead.
• Stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders frequently.
• Move throughout the store for entire shifts.
• Access all areas of the store safely.
• Operate store equipment and process information accurately.
• Move merchandise and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
