Job summary

Goldfish Swim School is seeking a Swim Instructor to teach water safety and proper swim techniques using our curriculum. You will work under the Deck Supervisor, providing engaging lessons and ensuring student safety in a warm, kid-friendly environment.

Requirements include two+ years of swim instruction experience, Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, and strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Non-Exempt; on-site work in Rochester, NY with flexible hours for shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Two or more years as a swimming instructor required.
• Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Instructs students using the Goldfish Swim School curriculum to teach water safety and swim techniques.
• Enforces safety rules, performs rescues and basic first aid when needed.
• Evaluates progress and completes required paperwork promptly.
• Interacts with parents/guardians about student development and progress.
• Maintains pool areas and equipment, reports issues to management as appropriate.
• Attends workshops and training outside regular hours as required.

Summary:

Instructs students on water safety and proper swim techniques based on thorough knowledge of the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides swim instruction based on the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.
2. Enforces safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents. Makes rescues and administers first aid when necessary.
3. Evaluates students’ progress, and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
4. Interacts with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students’ swim skills.
5. Acts as a GSS “ambassador” to ensure parental satisfaction.
6. Uses problem solving and creative thinking skills to identify and resolve challenges that students encounter.
7. Inspects pool areas before and after each class for possible maintenance, cleanliness or damage issues. Reports issues to management as appropriate.
8. Maintains and ensures proper storage of all pool equipment. Places and removes lane lines.
9. Reports accidents and incidents to management. Completes required documentation and paperwork.
10. Performs Deck Teacher duties as needed.
11. Performs light cleaning duties such as window washing, deck mopping, trash removal etc. on occasion.
12. Attend required/mandatory workshops and in-service training outside of regular working hours.
13. Fulfills other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Employer.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or GED is preferred. Experience as a certified lifeguard, youth sports instructor/coach, camp counselor and/or childcare provider required. Two or more years as a swimming instructor required. Swimming experience preferred.

Certificates and Licenses

Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certification required. Shallow water attendant highly recommended.

Work Environment

While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat and humidity. Noise level is usually moderate.
