Job summary

Goldfish Swim School is seeking a Swim Instructor to join our team in Rochester, NY. In this role, you will teach children water safety and swimming techniques using our curriculum, while maintaining a safe, engaging pool environment.

You will advance through instruction, communicate with parents, and collaborate with the Deck Supervisor to ensure high-quality lessons and excellent customer experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Two+ years as a swimming instructor required
• Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certification required

Responsibilities

• Provides swim instruction based on the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.
• Enforces safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents; makes rescues and administers first aid when necessary.
• Evaluates students’ progress and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
• Interacts with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students’ swim skills.
• Acts as a GSS ambassador to ensure parental satisfaction.
• Uses problem solving and creative thinking to identify and resolve challenges for students.
• Inspects pool areas before/after each class for maintenance, cleanliness or damage; reports issues.
• Maintains and stores all pool equipment; places/removes lane lines.
• Reports accidents/incidents to management with required documentation.
• Performs Deck Teacher duties as needed.
• Performs light cleaning duties occasionally (windows, deck mopping, trash).
• Attends mandatory workshops and in-service training outside regular hours.
• Fulfils other duties as assigned by the Employer

Summary:

8. Maintains and ensures proper storage of all pool equipment. Places and removes lane lines.
9. Reports accidents and incidents to management. Completes required documentation and paperwork.
10. Performs Deck Teacher duties as needed.
11. Performs light cleaning duties such as window washing, deck mopping, trash removal etc. on occasion.
12. Attend required/mandatory workshops and in-service training outside of regular working hours.
13. Fulfills other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Employer.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or GED is preferred. Experience as a certified lifeguard, youth sports instructor/coach, camp counselor and/or childcare provider required. Two or more years as a swimming instructor required. Swimming experience preferred.

Certificates and Licenses

Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certification required. Shallow water attendant highly recommended.

While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat and humidity. Noise level is usually moderate.
