The ideal candidate will be located in our Philadelphia office and will be responsible for managing and developing a group of 3 to 6 track engineers, providing technical expertise and managing and delivering track and railroad engineering projects. We are looking for an engineer experienced in track design from the feasibility/conceptual stage through design and construction. HNTB is delivering the largest and most complex rail projects in Pennsylvania and nationwide, including Amtrak, SEPTA, LIRR, PATCO, Brightline, and more. You will be a technical leader who can help win and deliver railroad projects for our clients. Candidates should be able to share their experience to develop less experienced staff and improve team performance.

What You'll Do
  1. Responsible for planning and distributing discipline-specific work, and adherence to schedule and budget.
  2. Assist in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
  3. Develop scope of work and level of effort for projects within discipline.
  4. Oversee the completeness and accuracy of team’s work, guiding and mentoring team members.
  5. Coordinate technical aspects of projects with clients and partners.
  6. Collaborate with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  7. Recruit, hire, develop, and retain staff, including performance and compensation reviews.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or
  • PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience.
What You'll Bring
  • Understanding of decision impacts on technical design and work planning.
  • Effective work planning and design coordination across disciplines.
  • Ability to prepare high-quality, timely, and within scope deliverables.
What We Prefer
  • Experience mentoring staff through design stages.
  • 8+ years relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
  • Deep technical experience in track design engineering.
  • Experience coordinating with disciplines like OCS, Traction Power, Signals, Structural, etc.
  • Proficiency with Bentley design platforms, ProjectWise, and Bluebeam Revu.
