Job summary

Pelican Products in Ontario, CA is seeking a Team Leader I to supervise production associates and sustain safe, on-time manufacturing. You will coordinate people, materials, equipment, and priorities on the floor, drive daily goals, coach teammates, and support Lean initiatives to improve safety, quality, and productivity.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, at least 6 months of leadership or related experience, and hands-on comfort with production processes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• At least 6 months of experience leading, training, mentoring, or directing others.
• Experience in manufacturing, production, or warehouse ops.
• Ability to train others and provide clear direction and feedback.
• Hands-on with production processes and power tools.
• ERP experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily production activities and direct workflow to meet safety, quality, and production goals.
• Train, coach, and cross-train team members across production processes and equipment.
• Monitor production performance, identify barriers, and resolve issues with the team.
• Coordinate staffing and labor coverage during breaks and downtime.
• Support production start-ups, process controls, and changeovers.
• Ensure standard work, quality requirements, and safety procedures are followed.
• Coordinate material flow to prevent delays.
• Provide ongoing feedback and communicate performance concerns.
• Support Lean and continuous improvement activities.
• Initiate and track maintenance work orders and escalate issues.

What You'll Do:

You'll lead and support a team of production associates while staying connected to the work happening on the floor. You'll help coordinate people, materials, equipment, and priorities to keep production running safely and on schedule.

• Lead daily production activities and direct workflow to meet safety, quality, and production goals.
• Train, coach, and cross-train team members across production processes and equipment.
• Monitor production performance, identify barriers, and work with the team and leadership to resolve issues.
• Coordinate staffing and labor coverage during breaks, absences, changeovers, and production downtime.
• Support production start-ups, process controls, and changeovers.
• Ensure standard work, quality requirements, and safety procedures are consistently followed.
• Coordinate material flow to and from production lines to prevent unnecessary delays.
• Provide ongoing feedback and coaching to team members and communicate performance concerns to the Supervisor or Manager.
• Support Lean and continuous improvement activities that improve safety, quality, productivity, and workflow.
• Initiate and track maintenance work orders and escalated equipment, quality, or safety concerns when needed.
• Help maintain clear communication between shifts, departments, team members, and leadership.

What We’re Looking For:

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• At least 6 months of experience leading, training, mentoring, or providing direction to others. Formal leadership experience is not required if you have experience as an acting lead, trainer, or go-to team member.
• Experience working in manufacturing, production, warehouse operations, or a similar environment.
• Ability to train and support employees while providing clear direction and feedback.
• Comfortable working hands-on and learning different production processes.
• Ability to operate or learn power equipment and hand tools such as saws, drills, routers, and heat guns.
• Strong understanding of workplace safety and the ability to recognize and escalation unsafe conditions.
• Ability to adjust priorities based on changing production needs.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Experience with SAP or another ERP system is a plus.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Regularly stand, walk, sit, and use hands and fingers throughout the workday.
• May climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch as part of production activities.
• Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally.
• Comfortable working in an active manufacturing environment.
