Job summary

Pelican Products, South Deerfield, MA, is seeking a Machine Shop Production Supervisor II to lead day-to-day operations on the shop floor, driving safety, quality, delivery, and cost while mentoring teams and implementing Lean improvements.

You will coordinate with Planning, Engineering, and Quality to meet customer requirements, use SAP for material and cost data, and uphold Pelican's quality standards in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, supervising, or directing production employees.
  • Experience working within a Lean Manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Root Cause Analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Advanced proficiency using SAP within a manufacturing environment, including the ability to analyze material movements, scrap, demand, BOMs, routings, and cost information.
  • Experience driving continuous improvement through Lean, 5S/6S, waste reduction, cycle-time improvement, or similar initiatives.
  • Strong ability to coach, motivate, influence, and develop production employees.
  • Ability to manage production priorities, capacity constraints, quality concerns, and employee-related issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • A hands-on leadership style with the willingness and technical ability to take the lead in production problem-solving efforts.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Associate or technical degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily production operations to ensure Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and productivity goals are achieved.
  • Lead daily SQDCI shift meetings, communicate performance against targets, and coordinate corrective actions across teams and shifts.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop production employees while setting clear expectations and holding the team accountable for performance.
  • Manage daily production requirements, identify capacity constraints, and coordinate labor, tooling, fixtures, equipment, and raw materials to maintain production flow.
  • Champion 5S/6S standards and drive improvements in workplace organization, safety, efficiency, and standardization.
  • Lead and participate in Lean and continuous improvement initiatives, using Lean Six Sigma tools, employee involvement, and cycle-time studies to reduce waste and improve performance.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis and corrective actions for production and quality issues, partnering with Engineering, Quality, and other support teams to implement sustainable solutions.
  • Ensure quality issues and defects are identified and addressed before products move to the next stage of production.
  • Monitor equipment and tooling to ensure safe and reliable operation, coordinate maintenance needs, and minimize production interruptions.
  • Oversee manufacturing training and ensure SOPs, work instructions, and other documentation remain current and aligned with applicable ISO standards.
  • Maintain and improve cross-training matrices to increase workforce flexibility and employee development.
  • Conduct timely safety and injury investigations and lead applicable root cause analysis using Practical Problem-Solving methodology.
  • Use SAP to analyze material movements, scrap, demand, BOMs, routings, and cost information to support production decisions.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Planning, Engineering, NPD, Quality, and other departments to resolve operational challenges and meet customer requirements.

What You'll Do

As a Machine Shop Production Supervisor II, you'll lead day-to-day manufacturing operations with responsibility for Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and continuous improvement. This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who enjoys being on the production floor, developing employees, solving technical and operational problems, and improving how work gets done. You'll oversee production schedules and performance while partnering with Planning, Engineering, NPD, Quality, and other teams to remove barriers and ensure customer orders are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to Pelican's quality standards.
