This role is based at the West Camp Wind Farm in the Holbrook, AZ area. The candidate must live within 1-1.5 hours from the site or be willing to relocate. Based on business needs, a company vehicle will be provided.

Responsibilities

The AES Operations team is looking for a seasoned Team Leader, Plant Operations. This is a regular full-time management position reporting to the AES Mountain West Regional Wind Manager. The ideal candidate must have strong leadership ability, including the ability to develop, educate, and ensure the safety of others. The position requires excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills. The position may require working extra and/or irregular hours and shift schedules as needed.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and ensure contractual requirements are met between all entities involved in the project.
  • Collaborate with internal and external entities to schedule maintenance, repair, and warranty work at the facility.
  • Maintain facility compliance with regulatory entities, including OSHA, NERC, CAISO, and environmental requirements.
  • Source and manage third-party service contractor work at the facility.
  • Directly responsible for all balance of plant duties, including substation, transmission line, road maintenance, vegetation control, landowner concerns, and building maintenance.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with project participants, including OEM operations, landowners, purchasing off-takers, interconnected utilities, and contractors.
  • Respond to collection and transmission system outages and facilitate repair; maintain 24/7 emergency response for the facility.
  • Provide oversight and monitoring of OEM operations.
  • Assist in creating and managing the facility's operating budget.
Qualifications
  • +8 years of experience in wind generation, plant maintenance, operations, or related technical fields. Experience with Vestas turbines is a significant advantage.
  • Leadership experience is required.
  • Computer proficiency with CMMS systems (SAP); skills in word processing, spreadsheets, email, and facility control.
  • Understanding of general workplace safety and ability to improve safety standards.
  • Ability to collaborate in a cross-functional, geographically diverse organization.
  • Hands-on technical abilities with strong skills; ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations.
  • Proactive problem-solving mindset and value-add mindset for the company.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive professional working relationships; open and honest communication; professional conduct and etiquette.
  • Team-oriented and willing to assist others with appropriate tasks.
  • Knowledge of site equipment including wind turbine generators, substations, SCADA, and PPE.
  • Experience in high voltage maintenance and switching.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; extensive site documentation management.
  • Ability and willingness to climb towers up to 400 feet and meet weight requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Education / Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Advanced technical education or training preferred.
  • Equipment operator experience preferred.
  • Certifications or training in NERC, NFPA 70E, and high voltage safety.
Working Conditions
  • Outdoor work at wind power plants in windy, dusty, hot or cold and snowy conditions.
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering equipment areas to inspect or collect data.
  • May require wearing PPE (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, safety footwear, ear protection).
  • Occasionally work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
  • Occasional lifting as needed to perform duties.
  • Typical schedule is Monday through Friday with on-call and potential travel; overtime and non-standard hours may be required.
  • Minimum occasional travel required.
