Job summary

BorgWarner is seeking a Team Lead in machining to guide and support a production team toward achieving daily targets and KPI goals. You will champion safety, quality, and continuous improvement while coordinating workloads and resources on the shop floor.

Ideal candidates bring leadership experience in a fast-paced industrial setting, proficiency with SAP and MS Office, and a demonstrated commitment to Lean/5S practices.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 6 months machining experience preferred.
  • 1 year in a leadership role.
  • Experience in fast-paced industrial lean environment.

Job description

Lead, guide, and support the team by coordinating workloads, offering assistance to ensure production targets are achieved and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and quality standards are met. This is a working Team Lead role.

Standard Duties:
  • Create a proactive safety culture through safety training, weekly safety meetings, a commitment to 5S and ongoing team compliance to safety policies and standards.
  • Identify unsafe work practices and work with Safety Leadership and Area Leader to resolve.

  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and compliance to company policies/procedures, OSHA requirements and BorgWarner Beliefs.
  • Train and support employees on the proper usage, handling, and preventative maintenance of equipment and tools.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area in compliance with 5S standards.
  • Support incident, accident and non-conformance investigations.
  • Train and foster a SPC approach to proactively meet process targets and stabilize processes/conditions.
  • Conduct daily start up meetings with your teams to discuss safety, priorities/schedule adjustments, performance to KPI’s and plant updates.
  • Optimize the allocation of people and resources, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in meeting daily Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) while upholding quality and safety standards.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with team members, customers, support groups, and management.
  • Verify employee training records are fully completed, signed off and submitted in accordance with standards.
  • Support the PQT in conducting quality assessments and fulfilling documentation obligations.
  • Optimize staffing and access inventory levels to align with schedule changes.
  • Monitor and sustain standardized work for area of responsibility.
  • Provide support and guidance to team. Serve as the subject matter expert .
  • Monitor change over and/or line set up efficiency. Work with operators to assist trouble-shooting activities for set-up, tool and equipment adjustments.
  • Examine materials to ensure they conform to control and specification limits.
  • Efficiently reduce scrap and waste by continuously monitoring and improving processes.
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement by supporting cross training of employees across machining departments.
  • Identify normal vs. abnormal condition and take immediate appropriate action, elevate concerns as appropriate.
  • Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and records and reports, to assess production output against demand and adjust accordingly.
  • Delegate daily duties to team members.
  • Actively participate in leadership development activities sponsored by BorgWarner.
  • Support and sustain the Operator Certification process.
  • Ensure timely and accurate production reporting.
  • Develop a comprehensive knowledge of the Machining Department and equipment to effectively assist the team in the achievement of daily goals and foster a continuous improvement culture.
  • Support other departments as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Safety, Health, and Physical Requirements:
  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Lifting shoulder high up to 35 lbs. repetitively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Repetitive motion activities including but not limited to loading machines, unloading machines, standing, lifting, loading/unloading carts.
  • All employees are responsible for knowing, understanding, and complying with the safety policies and procedures.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Education

High School diploma/GED or basic skills assessment required.

Experience
  • 6 months of Machining experience preferred.
  • 1 year in a leadership role.
  • Experience in fast paced industrial lean environment
Computer Skills
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate MS office skills.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • L2L experience preferred.
