Job summary

Mayville Engineering Company, Inc. in Wisconsin is seeking a Production Operator I who will take on lead responsibilities while performing standard operator duties.

The role emphasizes operating basic machinery in line with SOPs, safety rules, and work instructions to maintain quality and efficiency. You will plan daily work, assign duties, train staff, monitor product quality, and help troubleshoot machine or production issues.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent education and experience required.
  • Three years of related manufacturing or production experience required.
  • Preferred experience operating manufacturing machinery.
  • Experience providing training or leadership to other employees preferred.
  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Performs regular Production Operator I duties in addition to lead responsibilities.
  • Operates basic machinery in accordance with SOPs, work instructions, and safety requirements.
  • Loads and unloads materials into machinery and ensures materials are handled and positioned appropriately.
  • Monitors machine operations, production processes, and product quality to ensure established production and quality standards are met.
  • Plans and coordinates daily work activities and assigns duties to employees as needed to maintain adequate staffing and respond to changing workloads.
  • Provides day-to-day direction, instruction, training, guidance, and assistance to employees in performing their assigned duties.
  • Monitors product quality, workmanship, and proper application of established methods and procedures within the department.
  • Performs routine equipment checks and assists with basic maintenance activities. Reports equipment problems and coordinates with the appropriate personnel when additional repairs or maintenance are required.
  • Assesses and assists in resolving production problems, including machine issues, material shortages, production delays, quality concerns, and other operational challenges.
  • Assists employees with troubleshooting machine and production issues and communicates significant problems to the supervisor.
  • Helps identify preventative and corrective measures to reduce recurring production problems, equipment downtime, quality issues, and inefficiencies.
  • Coordinates equipment repairs and maintenance activities with the appropriate personnel to help minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
  • Provides feedback to the supervisor regarding employee performance, attendance, training needs, work quality, and other job-related concerns.
  • May participate in performance assessments, coaching, corrective action, and disciplinary proceedings when requested.
  • Ensures employees follow established safety procedures and company policies and actively promotes a culture of safety throughout the team.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area and encourages employees to maintain proper housekeeping standards.
  • Helps ensure production schedules are maintained and communicates changes, delays, staffing concerns, material shortages, or other issues that may affect production.
  • Assists with training new and existing employees on equipment operation, standard procedures, safety requirements, quality expectations, and department-specific processes.
  • Serves as a knowledgeable resource for employees and assists the supervisor with maintaining consistent departmental procedures and work practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent education and experience required.
Experience Requirements
  • Three years of related manufacturing or production experience required.
  • Previous experience operating manufacturing machinery preferred.
  • Previous experience providing training, guidance, or leadership to other employees preferred.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Moderate to heavy physical demands; frequently lifts and moves materials weighing up to 50 lbs. (11–27 kg).
  • Ability to perform occasional to frequent pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, twisting, crawling, and/or reaching throughout an 8–12 hour work shift.
  • Ability to operate motorized vehicles over an 8–12 hour work shift, as required.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods throughout an 8–12 hour work shift on concrete flooring.
  • May be exposed to elevated noise levels requiring hearing protection throughout an 8–12 hour work shift.
  • Ability to safely perform required physical duties while following all applicable safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
