Job summary

Strongpoint Partners is seeking an experienced Director of Plan Administration to lead a team of retirement plan administrators and oversee qualified plan administration and compliance. This role combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership to ensure accurate deliverables and exceptional client service.

Fully remote anywhere in the United States, with preference for candidates in the Pacific time zone.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of A-to-Z defined contribution retirement plan administration in a TPA environment.
  • Active ASPPA or NIPA designation (QKA, QPA, CPC, APA, APR, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 2 years leading, reviewing, and managing other retirement plan administrators.
  • Strong knowledge of ERISA, IRS, and Department of Labor regulations.
  • Excellent client relationship management and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and retirement plan software (PensionPro/ASC/Relius/Datair).

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and support a team of retirement plan administrators to ensure quality and compliance deadlines.
  • Oversee all aspects of qualified retirement plan administration and annual compliance for assigned plans.
  • Review and finalize team work for accuracy, consistency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Track workloads and deadlines to ensure timely annual administrations.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Director of Plan Administration to lead a team of retirement plan administrators while maintaining oversight of qualified retirement plan administration and compliance. This role is ideal for a seasoned retirement plan professional who combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership skills and a passion for developing others. The Team Lead will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of team deliverables, supporting complex client needs, driving process improvements, and serving as a technical resource for both clients and internal team members.

The ideal candidate has extensive A-to-Z defined contribution plan administration experience within a Third-Party Administrator (TPA) environment, enjoys mentoring others, and thrives in a collaborative, client-focused environment.

As a Director of Plan Administration, you'll play a critical role in developing retirement plan professionals while ensuring exceptional service for our clients. This is a fully remote position and can be performed from anywhere within the United States. We welcome candidates from all U.S. time zones; however, due to the primary locations of our partners and clients, preference will be given to those in the Pacific time zone.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and support a team of retirement plan administrators, ensuring high-quality work, productivity, and adherence to compliance deadlines.
  • Oversee all aspects of qualified retirement plan administration and annual compliance for an assigned team of retirement plans.
  • Review, authorize, and provide final quality assurance for team members' work, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Track workloads, monitor project progress, and proactively manage deadlines to ensure timely completion of annual administration requirements.
  • Coordinate with clients to request, obtain, and validate census data, financial information, and other required documentation.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex administrative, compliance, and client service issues.
  • Draft and review non-standard correspondence, client communications, and technical reports.
  • Review standard client correspondence and reporting prepared by team members.
  • Review annual compliance testing, including nondiscrimination testing, coverage testing, top-heavy testing, and other required compliance analyses.
  • Assist with and review Form 5500 preparation, including reconciliation of trust activity and plan assets.
  • Partner closely with attorneys, actuaries, financial advisors, auditors, and internal stakeholders to resolve technical issues and support client needs.
  • Provide consulting support during implementation of new retirement plans and assist with onboarding new clients.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational processes, increase efficiency, and enhance quality across the administrative team.
  • Mentor and develop team members by providing ongoing coaching, technical guidance, performance feedback, and training.
  • Stay current on ERISA, IRS, and Department of Labor regulations through continuing education, professional development, and company-sponsored training.
  • Utilize Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat, and other retirement plan administration software to effectively manage daily responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 8 years of A-to-Z defined contribution retirement plan administration experience within a TPA environment.
  • Active ASPPA or NIPA professional designation, (QKA, QPA, CPC, APA, APR, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience leading, reviewing, and managing the work of other retirement plan administrators.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing technical work and maintaining accountability for team deliverables.
  • Strong knowledge of ERISA, IRS, and Department of Labor regulations governing qualified retirement plans.
  • Excellent client relationship management and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and accounting aptitude.
  • Proven ability to prioritize competing deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality work and continuously improving processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience administering defined contribution/defined benefit (DC/DB) combination plans.
  • Experience leading or managing a remote team.
  • Experience with retirement plan administration platforms such as PensionPro, ASC, Relius, FT Williams, Datair, or similar systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Mathematics, or a related field.
Pay Transparency Statement

The anticipated pay range for this position is $90,000-$120,000 annually.

At Strongpoint Partners, our salary ranges reflect the minimum and maximum base pay for the posted position applicable to all locations across the US. Within the posted salary range, individual pay is determined by the geographic location, job related skills, experience, education, and certifications. Our total compensation package includes base pay plus a comprehensive benefits program.
