Job description

SUMMARY

The purpose of the SHIFT Team Leader role is to provide guidance and support on an ongoing basis to production associates in the MagStop Value Stream. The success of the person in this role is vital to the continuous improvement efforts in the area(s), as well as the success of Warner Electric to meet and exceed customer expectations. This is a "working leader" role where 40% of their time is spent operating within a team-based manufacturing cell.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty above standard expectations and maintain a 'certified' trainer status in the area. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend designated external courses on supervision/leadership as determined by management, at least once annually.
  • Spend limited time on alternate shifts for training and understanding daily priorities.
  • Maintain the work area and associates' adherence to 5S standards and regularly update the Daily Management boards.
  • Coordinate with Supervisors to ensure a safe working environment. Retrain associates as needed to reinforce safety behaviors. Report safety concerns immediately.
  • Lead the area/shift in addressing quality concerns or defects. Conduct training sessions to raise awareness and resolve issues.
  • Champion standard work methodology, ensuring consistent application and problem-solving when deviations occur.
  • Assist and oversee training of new associates, covering standard work, machine setup, safety procedures, quality, paperwork, and daily updates.
  • Lead by example and coach associates to follow policies and procedures, including safety, work performance, rules, and quality. Escalate ineffective coaching to supervisors.
  • Be open to cross-training across multiple teams and part numbers.
  • Act as primary coordinator with Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance for improvements and issue resolution.
  • Maintain open communication with colleagues and report concerns or ideas to supervision promptly.
  • Interface with previous and next shift Team Leaders for effective handoffs.
  • Subject to standard overtime scheduling and rotation.
  • Perform other duties as required.

ESSENTIAL PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CREDENTIALS

High School Diploma or GED required. Must be a current 'expert' in the area and a 'Champion of Lean.' Previous experience required. Post-secondary education preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods. Specific vision abilities required. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, noise level usually minimal to moderate.
