Job summary

J.B. Poindexter & Co. is seeking an experienced Set-Up Operator to plan and execute setup of metal fabrication equipment on the shop floor.

You will review production schedules and prepare tools, routers, and materials to meet demand, while training operators for efficient, safe workstations. Responsibilities include monitoring operator output, validating routes, running initial parts, and documenting quality checks.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of setting up metal fabrication type machinery (i.e., single / coil press, brake press, CNC turrets, resistance welders, etc.), 5+ years of experience in related field.
  • Ability to operate a forklift. Previous certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews production schedule to plan tools, routers, and materials needed for set-ups per the production schedule.
  • Provides training to set-up operators on setting up workstations.
  • Monitors and verifies the work of set-up operators and machine operators.
  • Validates production routes for current processes.
  • Sets up and operates cellular manufacturing processes.
  • Assists the Production Supervisor with any problems / scheduling.
  • Retrieves router from Production Control and determine material needs and tools required.
  • Sets up machinery per the specifications according to production schedule.
  • Runs first part for production and assure proper dimensions.
  • Submits first article to Supervision for ISIR approval.
  • Reviews router with Operator.Instructs machine operator on proper part forming for production and assures that proper safety equipment is in use.
  • Completes proper documentation (i.e. Quality Verification Sheet, Router and Set Up Record).
  • Completes Deviation Requests as necessary.
  • Inspects parts per control plan.
  • May use Fabrivision to inspect parts.
  • Follows all safety guidelines.
  • Handles other essential tasks as assigned.

Job description

Essential Functions:

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Ability to set-up and operate single / coil press, brake press, CNC turrets, resistance welders, etc.

  • Ability to operate and input CNC and CO2 laser equipment program.

  • Ability to use measuring tools (i.e., tape measures, micrometers, calipers, etc.)

  • Ability to use read blueprints.

  • Must be mechanically inclined.

  • Ability to operate an industrial forklift.

  • Verbal and written communication skills.

  • Reading and basic math skills.

  • Ability to think analytically and be self motivated.

  • Close attention and care is required to prevent damage to complex machine tools.

  • Frequent standing and walking.

  • Ability to lift or move typically 20-50 lbs.

  • Other physical demands – stooping, kneeling, handling, etc.

  • Ability to work overtime on short notice.
