Job summary

Smucker in Arkadelphia, AR is seeking a Manufacturing Leader to supervise shift operations. This role focuses on safety, quality, and on-time delivery while coaching teams and ensuring adherence to SOPs.

You will coordinate staffing, develop 24-hour shift plans, and drive continuous improvement using basic problem-solving tools. A high school diploma and 2 years of leadership in food manufacturing are required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate staffing and overtime activities on shift for the team and upcoming shifts.
  • Manage the day ensuring team has clear shift plans at least 24 hours prior to the new shift.
  • Follow through on shift plans to ensure key work tasks are accomplished before the end of shift.
  • Serve as a resource to flow work where needed.
  • Be responsible and accountable for all team results (Safety, Quality, Sanitation, Delivery, Reliability, Overtime, Training, etc.).
  • Ensure the team operates based on established documented SOPs and manufacturing standards.
  • Be qualified on key job functions including machine operations and sanitation of line equipment.

Work Environment

This job operates in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment and manufacturing sites can be loud.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May require use of equipment requiring certification before use.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the team is achieving desired short-term goals and maintain team scorecards for all areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure the team operates based on established documented SOPs and manufacturing standards.
  • Be qualified on key job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, machine operations and sanitation of line equipment.
  • Communicate activities and issues across department boundaries.
  • Work with business partners to resolve issues such as production accounting, quality/reliability concerns, production planning, and schedule changes.
  • Seek out and use department and plant resources on Operational Excellence systems, such as PM, FI, or AM.
  • Coach team members on root cause analysis tools to resolve operational and technical problems.
  • Resolve interpersonal conflicts between teams and individuals.
  • Facilitate goal setting and train groups on effective communication.
  • Use accountability models to improve individual performance.
  • Ensure each individual has a clear training plan and is making satisfactory progress toward that plan.
  • Coach team members on performance.
  • Assess team results weekly and monthly.
  • Develop plans to improve outages and work directly with Supervisors and Area Leaders to improve results.
  • Develop savings projects to improve department losses and work with key resources to drive improvements.
  • Coach team members to reduce losses.
  • Serve as a resource on business information systems such as Proficy, EAM, and IMS.
  • Provide effective feedback and develop work plans that drive the business and build individual skills.
  • Lead effective team meetings.
  • Ensure key information is discussed and address/resolve team conflicts in a group setting.
