Job summary

The J.M. Smucker Co. is seeking a Bakery Operator to set up and run a manufacturing line, ensuring production priorities are met and equipment runs smoothly. This role performs quality checks, reports issues promptly, and adheres to GMP and safety standards within a loud bakery environment.

Eight- or twelve-hour shifts are available. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and prior manufacturing experience, with a preference for those familiar with changeovers and team-based work.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Previous safety training preferred.
  • Previous manufacturing experience.
  • Experience assisting with change overs preferred.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up operation of bakery equipment/manufacturing line, establishing priorities and sequences for production per guidelines.
  • Inspect all areas within one line/equipment for operational and/or mechanical issues and ensure compliance with procedures.
  • Report equipment issues to supervisor or manager promptly.
  • Complete and submit production reports throughout the day.
  • Visually inspect product for quality and quantity and monitor runs.

  • Ensures compliance with Production/Packaging procedure/practices as well as inspecting all areas within one (1) line/equipment for any operational and/or mechanical issues.
  • Reports all equipment issues to the supervisor or manager as soon as possible.
  • Complete and submit reports throughout the day regarding production.
  • Visually inspects product for quality and quantity.
  • Monitoring runs and performing basic troubleshooting on our Bakery equipment.
  • Support quality control programs to ensure production procedures follow best practices of food safety and quality standards.
  • Understands and complies with all safety procedures that apply to daily operations.
  • Work safely; follow proper lock out/tag out procedure where applicable.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment by adhering to safety policy and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) procedures.
  • Adheres to safety policies and procedures including proper food safety and sanitation.
  • May perform other duties not listed.

8 hour or 12 hour schedule

Tools and Equipment: All tools and equipment which are required to be used by the employees shall be supplied and kept in repair by the Employer at no cost to the employee. These items must be kept on the premises.

Work Environment

This job operates in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment and manufacturing sites can be loud.

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
