Primary Responsibilities

Antioch University DMT Teaching Faculty members are engaged in student learning and institutional citizenship. The successful applicant will teach graduate courses and supervise students clinical training. The Director of Clinical Training (DCT) is a co-directorship position alongside the Program Director of Curricular and Administrative (PD) faculty position in the Dance/Movement Therapy with a concentration in Couples and Family Therapy program in the Relational Therapies Division, School for Psychology, Counseling Family Therapy (CPT). The DCT position is responsible for maintaining and developing the internship programs for DMT/CFT students in the Master of Arts in Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) with a Concentration in Couple and Family Therapy (CFT) Program, as well as the DMT students in the Dance/Movement Therapy Certificate program.

The DCT is responsible for discerning site requirements for both CFT internship sites and DMT internship sites that meet the ADTA Education and Training Standards for both approved programs and alternate route pathways, as well as those that align with the criteria for most Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) state licensures. This position is full-time (100% FTE).

Teaching Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Teach 12 semester credits of direct instruction per year. Course assignments will be made on an annual basis in consultation with the Relational Therapies Chair in light of specific individual and program needs
  • Participate in professional development activities relevant to areas of special expertise and interest.
  • Advise up to 15 students in the DMT program, including the assessment of academic progress and assistance with arrangements for non-curricular resources (internships, independent studies, etc.), help with other aspects of the students relationship with the educational environment at the University, and completion of final reviews related to graduation
  • Serve as Teaching Liaison for various content areas in the DMT: CFT Program curriculum to ensure quality of teaching and assist in problem resolution. Liaison activities may include recruiting adjunct faculty in the specified content areas, consulting on syllabus development, monitoring mid-term and final course evaluations, providing feedback to adjunct faculty about quality of teaching, and providing consultation for problematic student situations

Internship Responsibilities:

  • Develop, approve, and maintain appropriate internship sites and professional relationships with agencies and supervisors.
  • Assist students in developing goals and support with start to end internship processes.
  • Develop and maintain necessary forms and reporting procedures for documenting and evaluating internship experiences, internship sites, site supervisors, and student clinical development within an electronic application platform.
  • Manage the maintenance of student clinical training records and oversee affiliation agreements between the University and internship sites.
  • Provide yearly CFT supervisory training for on-site supervisors and train and approve new supervisors as needed.
  • Along with Internship Practica staff, oversee organization and maintenance of supervisory documentation and updates to supervisor lists
  • Work with internship staff to manage databases including: LMS project sites for MA DMT Clinical Training, database for internship sites in Supervision Assist or equivalent.
  • Annually update Clinical Training Handbooks and post to LMS and Supervision Assist.
  • Coordinate, plan, and implement team-led clinical training workshops and orientation for students entering into clinical training.
  • Work with the DMT PD to maintain ADTA approval standards and related outcomes.
  • Serve as part of the leadership team of the Division as Director of Clinical Training, DMT Masters degree program.
  • Supervise work study students assigned to assist the Clinical Training office.
  • Conduct audits of internship sites as needed.
  • Create guidance for the DMT program on internship placement regulations and requirements nationally.

Division, Policy, and Program Related Responsibilities:

  • Establish and revise policies pertaining to all aspects of the programs clinical training, ensuring they are available to faculty, students, and staff on the programs web pages and various handbooks.
  • Coordinate and assign internship and supervision sections for all students, maintaining accurate files and up-to-date internship site lists.
  • Oversee student reviews and remediation plans arising from clinical training issues, ensuring appropriate materials are up to date for faculty review.
  • Coordinate the supervision evaluation process for students enrolled in internships, maintaining records and databases of evaluations for both supervision and accreditation purposes.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate all internship faculty members.
  • Construct and standardize all internship syllabi and course requirements and assessments, and plan and lead clinical faculty/faculty supervisors meetings.
  • Conduct admission interviews with applicants and make recommendations regarding admissions decisions in individual cases; follow up with situations involving conditional admissions which require additional monitoring
  • Participate in all scheduled department, faculty, and program meetings and retreats to discuss implementation of policy and procedures, development of strategic objectives and directions, and topics in teaching/advising, student standards, adjunct faculty relations, accreditation, and curriculum development
  • Serve on University special committees, task forces, and campus-wide faculty leadership; attend all-community events

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Dance/Movement Therapy or a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education is required, with an academic background appropriate to a program committed to progressive education, diversity, social justice and community engagement.
  • Board-Certified Dance/Movement Therapy certification;
  • Prior teaching experience at a university, preferably at the graduate level;
  • Incorporate social justice and multicultural frameworks in teaching, clinical work, and research;
  • Identify professionally primarily as a Dance/Movement Therapist, as demonstrated by adopting the ADTA Code of Ethics as a guide for professional conduct and membership in systemically-oriented organizations, including AAMFT, and/or demonstrating relational identities in work or other environments;
  • An academic background appropriate to a program committed to progressive education, diversity, social justice and community engagement
  • Commitment to anti-racist principles in teaching and clinical work with demonstrated ability to incorporate those principles into teaching, supervision, course development, and research;
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a marriage and family therapist (preferred) or other clinical mental health profession.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Ability to complement and build on existing strengths within the department and will be eager to interact with students and faculty from the broader Antioch community;
  • Commitment to and proven history of incorporating social justice and multicultural frameworks in teaching and clinical work;
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • couple and family therapy research and assessment;
  • social justice theories pertaining to systemic therapy;
  • research and/or clinical work with a focus on social justice and multicultural issues, human sexuality and/or sex therapy, or abusive systems;
  • online or low-residency instruction experience;
  • competency-based assessment experience;
  • interest or experience in experiential education and remote learning pedagogical methods;
  • interest and/or experience in training supervisors.
  • AAMFT Approved Supervisor, or willingness to become one
