Job summary

Henry Viscardi School is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support classroom teachers in delivering instruction and promoting the academic, social, and physical development of students with disabilities.

You will assist with classroom activities, provide one-on-one or small-group support, help with daily routines, and reinforce individualized education goals under certified staff guidance, in a safe, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• New York State Teaching Assistant Certification preferred.
• Experience with children with disabilities in educational or care settings.
• Must be able to lift and transfer.

Job description

The Teaching Assistant / Teaching Aide at Henry Viscardi School will support classroom teachers in delivering instruction and promoting the academic, social, and physical development of students with physical and developmental disabilities. Responsibilities include assisting with classroom activities, providing one-on-one or small group support, helping with daily routines such as feeding, mobility, and reinforcing individualized education goals under the guidance of certified staff. The TA will also help maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment and participate in school-wide activities and professional development.

Qualifications & Education

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; a New York State Teaching Assistant Certification is preferred. Experience working with children with disabilities in an educational or care setting is strongly desired. Candidates must demonstrate patience, strong communication skills, and a commitment to supporting students with diverse learning and physical needs. Must be able to lift and transfer.

• All salaries are based on a 10-month school calendar (183 days and 6.5 hours of school day)
