Teaching Assistant, Mechatronics Technology

The College of Western Idaho Teaching Assistant for the Mechatronics Technology Program is responsible for assisting the instructor in the training and supervision of students during the classroom, skills lab, and other components of the program. This position is responsible for providing high-quality instructions, skills lab facilitation and organization, as well as ensuring effective utilization of resources, including supplies and time management.

Key Responsibilities:

Support Student Learning and Hands‑On Instruction
  • Assist with classroom, lab, and skills‑based instruction to reinforce mechatronics concepts and technical competencies.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and assessment to help students build confidence and achieve learning outcomes.
  • Foster a positive, engaging, and professional learning environment that encourages active participation.
Maintain Safe, Organized, and Effective Lab Operations
  • Prepare instructional materials, equipment, and laboratory resources to support daily instruction.
  • Promote compliance with college policies, laboratory safety standards, and applicable state and industry requirements.
  • Monitor lab activities and address classroom or laboratory concerns promptly to ensure a safe and productive environment.
Collaborate to Support Program Success
  • Partner with the instructor to manage supplies, maintain equipment readiness, and address program needs.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving student or operational challenges while maintaining effective communication with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Stay current with industry practices and continuously strengthen subject matter expertise to support high‑quality instruction.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate course material in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Ability to teach effectively in an adult learning environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of the Mechatronics Program.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of a laptop computer, Microsoft office, and projector.
  • Ability to be flexible with certain days when needed to teach.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
