Job summary

SEEDS Ecology & Education Centers is seeking an EcoSchool Teaching Assistant to work closely with youth, supporting Site Coordinators and teammates with nutrition, enrichment, and academic and emotional support.

You will deliver high-quality lessons, maintain a safe learning space, meet DHS/LARA requirements, and participate in ongoing professional development while helping SEEDS expand its impact in the community.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work well with youth and families in a learning environment.
  • Ability to follow DHS/LARA and Michigan Eduction program standards.
  • Comfort with after-school environments and diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality lessons aligned with grant objectives and enrichment goals.
  • Maintain a clean, safe learning environment daily.
  • Comply with DHS/LARA after-school workplace requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with Site Coordinator, staff, students, and families.
  • Complete required professional development on time.
  • Share student information with Site Coordinator and team by deadlines.
  • Attend EcoSchool Circle group meetings as required.
  • Support resource procurement and community communications to grow SEEDS impact.
  • Collaborate with SEEDS team to meet responsibilities as needed.
  • Comply with MiLEAP requirements, including CPR certification.

EcoSchool Teaching Assistant

Summary

The EcoSchool Teaching Assistant works closely with youth. They will deliver support to the Site Coordinator and other team members to provide nutrition, enrichment, and academic and emotional support to youth.

Essential Job Duties
  • Prepare and conduct, and/or support, high-quality lessons that align with grant objectives and provide academic and social enrichment to students
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and safe learning environment for students on a daily basis
  • Comply with DHS/LARA after school work place requirements
  • Establish and maintain excellent work relationships with Site Coordinator, fellow site staff members, school staff, students, and student families
  • Complete all required professional development on a timely basis
  • Provide relevant student information to Site Coordinator and Site Team, meeting predetermined deadlines
  • Attend EcoSchool Circle group meetings, as required
  • Increase the capacity of SEEDS to better serve students, families, schools and the community at large through resource procurement and communications
Other Responsibilities
  • Communicate with, and solicit assistance from other SEEDS team members to complete responsibilities, as needed
  • Comply with MiLEAP continuing education requirements, including CPR certification
  • All other duties as assigned
Position Information
  • School year work hours: 4 days per week, 3-4 hours per day
  • Summer 6-week program work hours: 4 days per week, 6-7 hours per day
  • Some variations, site specific needs
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for up to 3 hours at a time
  • Ability to hike on uneven terrain for up to 3 hours
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs regularly
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, and pick up items from the floor to a standing position
  • Ability/willingness to spend up to an hour outdoors in summer and winter temperatures and weather conditions
  • Ability to hear sounds and recognize difference between them
  • Ability to run short periods of time
  • Must be able to easily get up and down off of the floor

Qualifications
  • 18 years old, minimum age
  • Must be able to pass all required background checks
  • Have, or willing to obtain, CPR/1st Aid Certification
  • Must meet all DHS qualifications as stated in the Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers booklet
Compensation
  • 16-22 hours per week
  • $15.72hour
  • Benefits: Sick Time, SEEDS sponsored Employee Assistance Program
