Job summary

The Center for Disability Services is hiring full-time Teaching Assistants at the Langan School in Albany, NY to support instruction, manage classroom activities, and assist with mobility and daily living tasks for students with disabilities. You will implement behavioral plans with the team, record data, and help set up the learning environment.

Must have a High School Diploma or GED (college credits preferred), and you must obtain NYS Teaching Assistant Certification within one year of hire;

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; college credits preferred.
• Must obtain NYS Teaching Assistant Certification within one year of hire.
• Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assists in instructional activities as directed by the teacher.
• May assume responsibility for class when teacher is absent.
• Follows mobility, dining and direct care protocols as directed by the teacher or therapist.
• Assists with management of students, including activities of daily living.
• Carries out therapeutic goals within classroom activities.
• Records data and monitors student responses.
• Follows behavioral plans/intervention techniques for assigned students.

Many of the innovative programs and vital services that we offer are not available elsewhere.We are looking for Teaching Assistants to join our Langan School in Albany, NY.Full-time Teaching Assistant hires at Albany Langan School and Clover Patch Preschool are eligible for up to $1,500. Payments are subject to the terms of the incentive program, including continued active employment and good standing.Responsibilities:Assists in instructional activities as directed by the teacher- including direct instruction of studentsMay assume responsibility for class when teacher is absent/unavailableFollows mobility, dining and direct care protocols as directed by the teacher or therapist and as noted on individual fact sheetsAssists with management needs of students, including performing duties related to activities of daily living, (toileting, diapering, washing, tooth brushing), dress/undress, put on/remove adaptive equipment, set up students’ learning environmentCarries out therapeutic goals within classroom activities as directed by and in conjunction with the therapist, includes systematic lifting and positioning of students and application and removal of equipmentRecords data, monitors student responses as directed by teacher or other team professionalsFollows behavioral plans/intervention techniques for assigned students, as directed by teacher, school psychologist, and/or behavior support staffRequirements:High School Diploma/GED required; college credits preferredWill be required to obtain their NYS Teaching Assistant Certification within one year of hireMust be at least 18 years of ageMust be able to lift a minimum of 50 poundsAt The Center for Disability Services, we don’t just accept difference – we celebrate it, support it, and thrive on it for the benefit of our employees and the people we support.
