Job description

Summary: For nearly two centuries, St. Joseph Hearing + Speech has delivered exceptional listening and spoken language solutions for children with hearing loss, reflecting the charism of the Sisters of St Joseph of Carondelet. The Teaching Assistant works with the Preschool classroom teachers and Speech Language Pathologists to ensure the classroom runs smoothly and learning is supported by appropriate activities and lessons. This position follows the academic calendar of 194 days.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Support and assist the students during classroom activities and lessons to ensure the best learning environment, as directed by the classroom teacher.
  2. Follow all established organization and department policies, procedures, objectives and quality standards.
  3. Assist in maintaining a safe working environment throughout the organization by adhering to all safety management policies and procedures.
  4. Maintain confidentiality of all students, family and St. Joseph information, adhering closely to HIPAA standards of practice.
  5. Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.
  6. Provide any duty necessary for the smooth functioning of the program.

Education and Qualifications:

  1. Additional education beyond a high school diploma is desired but not required.
  2. 1-3 years’ experience working in a preschool or daycare setting with children is strongly preferred.
  3. Demonstrates flexibility, collaboration, and a positive rapport with co-workers and children.
  4. Excellent communication skills, patience, and a desire to work with children.
  5. Ability to take direction and apply those directions in the classroom and in the preparation of classroom materials.
  6. Willing and able to assist young children with various tasks.

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  2. Ability to operate office equipment, including computers, copiers, fax machines, and phones.
  3. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
  4. Ability to use strong cleaning and disinfecting products.

Certifications/Licenses: Valid Indiana Driver's License.

Job Type: Full-time

Compensation: From $16.00 per hour

Schedule: Day shift 7:45am - 3:45pm

Ability to commute/relocate: Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (Required)
