Job summary

The Art Academy of Cincinnati is seeking a Teaching Artist & Writer in Residence to partner with middle and high schools, adapting engaging lesson plans and guiding students to develop 21st‑century skills through visual art and creative writing.

This contracted W-2 outreach position is 0–15 hours weekly with school visits 8 am–3 pm; a college degree in the arts, English, foreign language, or education is required, and experience with teens is highly valued.

Qualifications

• College degree in the Arts, English, Foreign Language, Education, or similar degree.
• Experience teaching, instructing, or leading events in non-classroom environments (camps, conferences, museums).
• Experience working with teens and supporting student growth is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Adapt engaging and innovating lesson plans for visiting Teaching Artist & Writer classroom sessions with a partnering Middle or High School.
• Visit a partnering school 5 times over the duration of one to two months on a customized schedule that works for both the school Teacher and the AAC Teaching Artist & Writer.
• Incorporate creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking within project lesson plans utilizing advanced methods/techniques within art, design, and creative writing.
• Approve dates to visit classroom(s) with partnering schools.
• Communicate with partnering classroom Teacher(s) via email.
• Lead a field trip at the AAC when your classroom students come to do a reflective/assessment activity and exhibit their created work.
• Administer and Complete student and teacher questionnaires and surveys.
• Incorporate social and emotional learning exercises with students.
