Qualifications

Job Description:

The College of Integrative Sciences and Arts (CISA) Dean’s Office seeks a collaborative and innovative Teaching and Learning Specialist to advance excellence in teaching and learning across the college's academic programs. In this role, you will partner with faculty and academic leaders to design, build, and continuously enhance high-quality learning experiences that support student engagement, academic achievement, and career readiness.

A primary responsibility of this role is the development, organization, and maintenance of courses within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). Working closely with faculty, the Teaching and Learning Specialist translates instructional content into engaging, well-organized, and accessible Canvas courses by developing modules, assignments, discussions, quizzes, rubrics, multimedia content, and learning activities. The specialist applies evidence-based instructional design principles, learning science, accessibility standards, and quality assurance practices to create intuitive, student-centered learning environments that promote success across online, hybrid, and in-person courses.

The Teaching and Learning Specialist serves as a trusted Canvas and educational technology resource for faculty, providing consultation on course design, Canvas best practices, course organization, accessibility, assessment strategies, and the effective use of university-supported instructional technologies. This position also supports the thoughtful integration of emerging technologies, including generative artificial intelligence, to enhance teaching, learning, and student engagement while promoting responsible and ethical use.

As a member of the CISA Teaching and Learning team, this position collaborates with faculty, academic leaders, and university partners to strengthen the quality and consistency of Canvas course experiences across the college. Responsibilities include developing Canvas course templates and instructional resources, supporting faculty development initiatives, conducting course quality and accessibility reviews, and recommending improvements based on instructional best practices and student feedback. The successful candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about leveraging Canvas and instructional technologies to create exceptional learning experiences that reflect CISA's interdisciplinary mission and Arizona State University's commitment to innovation, inclusion, and student success.

Position Salary Range:
  • $60,000 - $65,000 annually; DOE
Desired Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Learning Science, Higher Education, or a related field.
  • Experience designing and building courses in Canvas Learning Management Systems and/or authoring and multimedia tools, and other instructional technologies.
  • Experience translating complex subject matter into clear, structured, and engaging learning experiences for adult learners.
  • Experience developing synchronous distance education courses from initial concept through implementation.
  • Experience creating multimedia learning content using tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar applications.
  • Experience using instructional technologies and external educational tools that support online and hybrid teaching, such as Harmonize, Yellowdig, McGraw-Hill Connect, etc.
  • Experience providing training, workshops, or instructional support in higher education settings.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with faculty and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple competing tasks and priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced collaborative team environment.
