Job summary

Birch Agency is seeking dedicated Paraeducators and Teaching Assistants to join our team in Kingston, PA. You will support students with special needs in a classroom setting, assisting teachers, managing materials, and facilitating positive learning environments throughout the school year.

Ideal candidates have a passion for working with students, are prepared to assist across activities of daily living, and may be asked to transport students when qualified.

Qualifications

• Education: minimum of a 1-year degree; preference for Early Childhood degrees; paraprofessional certification considered.

Description

Birch Agency is seeking Paraeducators to join our team.

We are seeking dedicated Paraeducators and Teaching Assistants to join our team in a classroom setting, supporting students in the Kingston, PA area for the upcoming School Year. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with students and supporting educators in creating a positive learning environment and supporting individuals with special needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one tutoring (if such tutoring is scheduled at a time when a student would not otherwise receive instruction from a teacher).
• Assist with classroom management, such as organizing instructional and/or other materials.
• Act as a liaison in communicating with the teacher and other IU and district staff regarding the ongoing needs of students.
• Support parental involvement activities.
• Provide support across all educational settings; escort and supervise students to various locations across all educational settings.
• Assist the student in using the equipment.
• Assist the student in using and maintaining augmentative communication devices.
• Assist a student to ambulate, position, and transfer.
• Advocate for and provide support for students with various special needs, including but not limited to Autism Spectrum support, Behavior management, Physical disabilities, and Learning disabilities.
• Support students in range of motion and other exercises.
• Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) as needed (e.g., feeding, grooming, bathing, toileting, diapering, etc.).
• Monitor the incidence and prevalence of designated health problems or medical conditions (e.g., seizure precautions or extreme lethargy).
• Accompany student on school bus or other vehicle.
• Cue, redirect or monitor to ensure that the student performs ADL tasks when a cognitive impairment prevents a student from knowing when or how to carry out the task (e.g., a student may not be able to dress without instruction on how to do so or need reminders of what to do and when).
• Observe/monitor and redirect/intervention to assist with completion of ADL’s.
• Cue the student to pay attention, participate in activities and complete tasks.
• Participate in the implementation of each student's IEP (Individualized Educational Plan) and C.E.Rs (if applicable)
• Assist with data collection of student performance.
• May be trained, when qualified, to occasionally transport students.
• Assist with setting up the educational environment and preparing materials for instruction.

Job Qualifications

• Education: Minimum of a 1-year degree, with preferences given to degrees in Early Childhood; related fields will receive consideration or paraprofessional certification.
• Experience: 1 years of experience in a classroom setting preferred
