Job summary

The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit #23 is seeking a Vision Support Teacher to provide itinerant services across Montgomery County school age programs. The role supports students with visual impairments within general and special education settings, using braille and adaptive tech as needed.

Requirements include PA TVI certification (UEB preferred), ability to travel, a valid PA driver's license, and a commitment to evidence-based instruction.

Qualifications

• PA certification in Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) is required
• UEB training is preferred for Unified English Braille
• Experience with students with vision support needs
• Valid Driver's License with travel across Montgomery County, PA required

Responsibilities

• Conduct Functional Vision Evaluations and Learning Media Assessments to determine eligibility for vision services
• Develop a plan for delivering high-quality, evidence-based instruction in various environments
• Knowledge of Braille, Low Vision Aids and adaptive technology skills
• Ensure students have appropriate media for educational materials
• Collaborate with students, parents, teachers, and staff to ensure accommodations for visual impairment

A vacancy exists for a Vision Support Teacher to work within the Office of Student Services at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. This position is an Itinerant position that will provide services to children in School Age programs throughout Montgomery County.

Qualifications:

• A valid PA certification in Teacher of the Visually impaired (TVI); additional certification in Orientation & Mobility (O&M) preferred
• Prefer Unified English Braille trained (UEB)
• Experience with students with vision support needs
• Current child abuse, PA Criminal and FBI Fingerprint clearance (dated within one year of hire)
• Valid Driver's License (this position requires travel throughout Montgomery County, PA).

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Conduct Functional Vision Evaluations, Learning Media Assessments, and ECC Assessment to determine eligibility for vision services.
• Develop a plan for delivering high quality, evidence based instruction and support for children in a variety of environments including general and special education classrooms, specialized schools, community settings and in homes.
• Knowledge of Braille, Low Vision Aids and adaptive technology skills.
• Assure that the student has all educational materials in the appropriate media.
• Work closely with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure that they understand the implications of visual impairment and the accommodations necessary to assure students have optimal access to instruction and social interactions.

Location: This position will service school age programs located throughout Montgomery County. The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located in Norristown, PA and provides services to students in School Age Special Education and Non-Pub classrooms located throughout Montgomery County, PA. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7.5 hours/day, 10 months (194 days/year)

2026-2027 Salary: Bachelor's, Step 1: $55,194/year Master’s, Step 1: $66,508/year *Placement on salary schedule based on experience and/or education beyond the Master's Degree.
