Minimum Requirements:
Education:

Certification by the State of Georgia in Education SRT4 – SRT7 and content area specialization as required by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Hold Special Education Certification in the appropriate level and subject area.

Experience:

Successful completion of an accredited teacher training program.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Skills in working effectively with people; effective writing and speaking skills; ability to employ a variety of instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners; ability to deal with multiple tasks.

Primary Function:

To provide appropriate learning experiences and educational opportunities based on knowledge of each child and his special needs in order for maximum development of his abilities.

Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Follows professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, students’ records, parents and colleagues.
  2. Interacts in a professional manner with students and parents.
  3. Is available to students and parents for conferences according to system policies.
  4. Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning and sending written communications.
  5. Maintains confidentiality for school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues and parents.
  6. Models correct use of language, oral and written.
  7. Demonstrates accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content.
  8. Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students.
  9. Complies with school, system and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies.
  10. Conducts assigned classes at the times scheduled.
  11. Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and is punctual.
  12. Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy.
  13. Provides adequate information, plans and materials for substitute teacher.
  14. Implements designated curriculum.
  15. Maintains accurate, complete and appropriate records and files reports promptly.
  16. Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy.
  17. Complies with conditions as stated in contract.
  18. Acts in a professional manner and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety and good order.
  19. Takes precautions to protect records, equipment, and materials and facilities.
  20. Assumes responsibility for supervising students in out-of-class settings.
  21. Develops and implements Individual Educational Plans for identified handicapped students.
  22. Does educational screenings for students referred for psychological testing.
  23. Serves as a member/consultant of the Student Support Team.
  24. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and Special Education Director.
