Summary: To plan, organize, and present instruction and environments where exceptional children learn subject matter and skills contributing to their educational, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
Essential Duties:
- Implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
- Demonstrate appreciation for diversity among students, colleagues, and parents.
- Participate in faculty meetings, conferences, and training workshops.
- Collaborate with educators to create a supportive educational environment.
- Maintain attendance and grade records.
- Prepare for classes and show evidence of preparation.
- Establish clear objectives and communicate them to students.
- Instruct classes at designated locations and times.
- Follow school procedures for emergencies.
- Develop and maintain IEPs, modifying curriculum as needed.
- Keep accurate records as required.
- Assess student progress and communicate with parents.
- Administer and interpret educational testing.
- Use data to monitor progress towards goals.
- Employ research-based instructional techniques and technology.
- Create a proactive classroom environment for students' emotional and behavioral needs.
- Teach positive behavioral skills and develop behavioral intervention plans.
- Use behavioral strategies to de-escalate behaviors.
- Utilize technology for individualized materials.
- Provide instruction in various settings: one-to-one, small group, and whole group.
- Apply principles of applied behavioral analysis.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Special Education.
Preferred: State-approved training for seclusion and restraint; Master's degree in Special Education.
Licensing/Certification:
North Carolina Teaching License and Certification in Special Education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of regulations pertaining to exceptional children.
- Ability to use current technology and communication methods.
- Effective communication skills.
- Classroom management and differentiation techniques.
- Understanding of IEP processes.
- Ability to use research-based techniques and data analysis.
- Ability to deliver inclusive curricula and interact professionally with stakeholders.
