Job Summary
To plan, organize, and present instruction and environments that support the educational, behavioral, and social-emotional development of exceptional children.
Essential Duties
- Implement the district's educational philosophy, goals, and objectives.
- Appreciate diversity among students, colleagues, and parents.
- Participate in faculty meetings, conferences, and training workshops.
- Collaborate with educators to create a comprehensive educational environment.
- Maintain attendance and grade records.
- Prepare for classes and show evidence of preparation upon request.
- Establish clear objectives for lessons and communicate these to students.
- Follow school procedures for crises or emergencies.
- Develop and maintain IEPs, modifying curriculum as needed.
- Keep accurate records as required by law and policy.
- Assess student progress and communicate with parents.
- Administer and interpret educational testing.
- Use data to track progress toward goals.
- Employ research-based instructional techniques and technology.
- Create a proactive classroom environment suitable for students' emotional and behavioral needs.
- Instruct students in positive behavioral skills and develop behavioral intervention plans.
- Use positive behavior strategies to manage behavior.
- Utilize technology for individualized materials.
- Provide differentiated instruction across various settings.
- Apply principles of applied behavioral analysis.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education (minimum).
- State-approved training for seclusion and restraint (desirable).
- Master's degree in Special Education (preferred).
Licensing/Certification
- North Carolina Teaching License and Certification in Special Education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of regulations pertaining to exceptional children.
- Ability to use current technology and communication tools.
- Effective communication skills.
- Classroom management and differentiation techniques.
- Understanding of the IEP process.
- Research-based instructional and behavior management techniques.
- Data analysis for instruction.
- Ability to deliver curriculum inclusively.
- Effective interaction with staff, students, and parents.
