Responsibilities

  • Teach children with learning impairments with necessary modifications.

  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.

Primary Purpose

To provide instruction and assistance necessary to enable all children to achieve and function successfully in the least restrictive environment.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Special Education Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Have understanding of various disabilities and special education law.
  • Possess skills to assist in remediation of various disabilities.
  • Exhibit excellent communication (verbal and written), public relation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of the policies and procedures of the MISD.
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of the change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
Experience
  • None
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Teach children with learning impairments to function in regular classroom with modifications.
  • Plan programs of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Attend Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings.
  • Develop and update the individual education plan for students.
  • Work in collaboration with the classroom teacher(s) who may be involved with these students in formulating teaching strategies, planning appropriate lessons, and evaluating student progress.
  • Reveal confidential information concerning students only when disclosure serves professional purposes or is required by law.
  • Other School Health and Related Services (SHARS) duties as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
