Under the supervision of the Principal and/or other designated administrator, the Special Education Teacher develops and implements instructional programs tailored to meet the individual needs of students with disabilities. Responsibilities include assessing student performance, modifying instructional activities as needed, and understanding relevant local, state, and federal mandates governing special education.

Main Responsibilities
- Promote positive interactions and enthusiasm for learning among students.
- Encourage self-direction and motivation.
- Adapt instructional content to students' needs and interests.
- Plan and organize effective long-term lesson plans.
- Use a variety of teaching materials and resources.
- Clearly communicate lesson objectives and their importance.
- Apply diverse teaching techniques and activities both inside and outside the classroom.
- Monitor student progress and communicate findings appropriately.

- Complete reports accurately and promptly.
- Participate in responsibilities outside the classroom related to school activities.
- Maintain a safe and organized environment for students.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education or related field, with specific endorsement in Special Education.
- Valid teaching license meeting Virginia requirements for special education.

- Ability to relate positively with parents and community members.
- Assess individual needs and performance.
- Work cooperatively in teams, organize work independently, meet deadlines, and demonstrate enthusiasm.
Working Conditions
- Primarily indoor classroom environment, with potential outdoor activities.
- Moderate noise, temperature-controlled environment, no exposure to harmful chemicals.
- Physical exertion up to 20 pounds, with abilities including standing, sitting, and communication.
