Primary Purpose
To provide instruction and assistance necessary to enable all children to achieve and function successfully in the least restrictive environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Special Education Certificate
Special Knowledge / Skills
- Understanding of various disabilities and special education law.
- Remediation skills for various disabilities.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), public relations, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of the policies and procedures of MISD.
- Knowledge of change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
Experience
- None
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Teach children with learning impairments to function in regular classroom with modifications.
- Plan programs of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Attend Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings.
- Develop and update the individual education plan for students.
- Work in collaboration with the classroom teacher(s) involved with these students in formulating teaching strategies, planning appropriate lessons, and evaluating student progress.
- Reveal confidential information concerning students only when disclosure serves professional purposes or is required by law.
- Other School Health and Related Services (SHARS) duties as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
