Job Description
Provide high-quality instruction to students and work collaboratively with the school leader, colleagues, students, parents, and the board to accomplish or surpass the academy's articulated educational goals. Work as a collaborative team member to implement the academy curriculum and achieve short- and long-term academic goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning; develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures; enforce the academy's student discipline code; collaborate on implementing initiatives such as school-wide behavior management systems.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs and goals of students; establish clear objectives for all lessons and units; ensure lessons are aligned with state and school curriculum standards.
- Develop lesson plans and submit for review and feedback; work cooperatively with the instructional coach to improve instructional quality. Participate in ongoing analysis and planning to keep the curriculum aligned with state standards.
- Collaborate with special education staff to implement an inclusive approach for students with special needs; participate in child study teams or IEP planning; implement accommodations and modifications; seek advice from support services as needed.
- Work with staff to implement grant-funded programs to accelerate learning, including for students with special needs, at-risk students, and English language learners.
- Maintain accurate records, ensure confidentiality, and complete necessary documentation for compliance with regulations.
- Communicate regularly with parents, encourage their participation, and be available outside normal hours to discuss student progress.
- Maintain professional competence through conferences, mentoring, coursework, and involvement in professional organizations; complete all requirements to maintain teaching credentials and status.
- Inform the school leader of needed instructional resources; participate in team activities such as grade-level and school-wide planning.
- May participate in extracurricular activities such as coaching, clubs, student government, tutoring, or enrichment activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- State teacher licensure/certification with appropriate endorsements.
- Bachelor's degree with subject area emphasis and/or coursework or experience to be deemed 'highly qualified' for the subjects taught. Non-certified applicants with relevant degrees may be considered if they plan to attain certification within a specified period.
- Demonstrated commitment to student learning and achievement.
- Proven proficiency in teaching or tutoring, with experience in student and parent relations.
