LOCATION/DEPT: Assigned School/Curriculum and Instruction

REPORTS TO: Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Term: Apr 13, 2026 – Dec 18, 2026 (Temporary Full Time, no benefits)

Pay: Licensed Substitute Teacher pay ($130/day) until leave is exhausted, then Teacher salary scale thereafter.

Must hold current NC Teacher license with certification in Science 9-12.

Position Summary:

Provides leadership in an educational environment that encourages and nurtures learning for all students. Performs a broad range of teaching services, developing skills, attitudes, and knowledge. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet each student’s needs. Responsible for maintaining appropriate records and following procedures of Henderson County Public Schools.

Qualification and Special Requirements

• Teacher must hold a valid NC Teaching License or have qualifications to obtain one.
• Equivalent combination of training and experience providing required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• National Board Certification preferred.

• Thorough knowledge of secondary education principles, practices, and procedures.
• Thorough knowledge of principles and methodology of effective teaching.
• Thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations, and procedures.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents.

Essential Duties

• Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of all students.
• Create a classroom environment that encourages student involvement and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
• Plan, coordinate, and continuously improve instruction for all students.
• Prepare for classes assigned, and provide evidence of preparation upon request.
• Use instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
• Monitor student performance and growth.
• Take necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Establish relationships with parents, colleagues, administrators, and community to enhance learning opportunities.
• Have availability to students and parents for education-related purposes outside instructional day when requested under reasonable circumstances.
• Self‑assess effectiveness and demonstrate successful application of skills and information acquired to increase effectiveness.
• Attend staff meetings and perform other duties as required by the Principal.
