Job summary

FlexSchool, Inc. in Berkeley Heights, NJ seeks an engaged classroom support specialist to assist in our gifted and twice-exceptional program.

You will help maintain a safe, stimulating learning environment and support students with diverse profiles. Under teacher supervision, you will plan and develop teaching aids, supervise student breaks, reinforce lessons through storytelling, discussion, and role-play, and assist with assignments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• Patience, flexible, positive, consistent, dependable, creative, and cooperative with a sense of humor.
• Mental stamina to work positively with students for the length of scheduled workday.
• Sufficient security and judgment to handle crisis situations.
• Experience working with gifted/LD students a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support and supervision in the classroom, in support of both the individual student and an overall safe and stimulating educational environment.
• Plan, prepare, and develop teaching aids for use in the classroom to support student success, including activity sheets, drawings, and similar handouts.
• Provide redirection as needed to support appropriate classroom behaviors.
• Supervise and support student breaks from the classroom as needed.
• Help students identify and prepare for challenges such as sensory stimuli and social discomfort, and develop self-regulation strategies.
• Present and reinforce class subject matter to students under teacher guidance using stories, discussions, and role-playing.
• Assist students with assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
• In the absence of the teacher, confer with parents on student progress.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

What You'll Do

• Presenting and reinforcing class subject matter to the student, under the guidance of a teacher, utilizing a variety of methods including stories, discussions, and role-playing as needed.
• Assisting the student with assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
• In the absence of the teacher, may confer with parents on student progress.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
