Job summary

A staffing agency is seeking an energetic and experienced Special Education Teacher to work with students facing academic or physical challenges. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of child development principles and be committed to helping students succeed. Responsibilities include developing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and modifying curricula. Qualifications

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree or higher and special education license.
  • Previous experience as a special education teacher is preferred.
  • Deep understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and other related disorders.
  • Strong understanding of child development principles and best practices in education and classroom management
  • Knowledge of classroom health, safety, and sanitation guidelines and ability to closely adhere to the guidelines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Create and enforce classroom rules and procedures.

  • Kids Chat Program: a ninety-minute session for children and parents based on the Nurturing Parents program; evenings and weekends as requested; separate areas for parents and children; activities by developmental age; two classes per month (not to exceed 24 classes in 12 months); government-furnished supplies and resources
  • Parents Support Group for Waiting Families: a ninety-minute session held once a month for waiting families; structured as a play group; materials based on Nurturing Parents; government-furnished supplies
  • Parents & Children with Special Needs and Health Challenges class: offered three times a year; coordinated through Child, Youth and School Services; curriculum based on nurturing parenting program; one-year schedule with multiple sessions; sign-up, assessments, and follow-up by the contractor; government-furnished supplies and workbooks
