Schedule: Monday – Friday, 10:45AM – 2:15PM, following the Brentwood School District Calendar.
Summary: Family Service League is seeking a part-time Teacher’s Aide for our UPK program. The Teacher’s Aide will assist the Teacher in providing support in the classroom within the UPK guidelines. Responsibilities include helping the Teacher and children in the day-to-day operation of the classroom.
Responsibilities:
- The Teacher’s Aide will follow all Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) Day Care regulations and policies.
- Assist the Teacher in using the district adopted curriculum and materials.
- Utilize positive classroom management techniques to guide children’s behavior in a structured, positive, and nurturing manner.
- Review expectations and class rules daily.
- Assist in creating and using individual behavior management plans when necessary.
- Help conduct assessments in accordance with Brentwood School District’s guidelines as needed.
- Assist in conducting at least one Parent/Teacher conference with each family during the school year.
- Assist and attend planning activities for a minimum of one “Family Night”.
- Maintain accurate records and complete all required reports.
- The Teacher’s Aide will maintain a clean, safe, and cheerful classroom environment, with appropriate and varied materials available to students.
- Keep the bulletin boards current and display children’s work to reflect what is currently being taught.
- Serve as a role model for the students. Demonstrate and facilitate appropriate conflict resolution and model kindness and empathy toward others.
- Hang material in English/Spanish along with a picture.
- Assist in displaying the daily schedule with times and identifying pictures. Review the schedule with the children as you transition from activity to activity.
- Maintain flexibility as reassignment to other classrooms as needed.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- At least 6 months of experience working in a classroom or pre-school setting is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required.
- Must possess the ability to communicate in a positive and empathetic manner with children.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, are required.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Physical activities require considerable use of arms and legs and moving of the whole body, such as bending, pushing, pulling, walking, stooping, and handling of various types of materials. Heavy lifting may be required.
