Position Summary:

Reporting to the Education Director, the Teacher's Aide will work with their teaching team to ensure that all children reach developmentally appropriate milestones through the implementation of evidence-based curricula, individualized support, and high-quality learning environments. The Teacher's Aide will focus on preparing children and families for Kindergarten and life success, while ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and site-specific funding regulations. The incumbent will promote the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core Values to align with the position's functions.

Essential Duties:
  1. Strategic Oversight:
    • Understand and promote the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core Values, ensuring alignment with policies and procedures.
    • Support the lead teacher in implementing strategies that meet educational and organizational standards.
  2. Curriculum Implementation:
    • Assist in implementing age-appropriate, engaging curriculum activities aligned with learning objectives.
    • Collaborate to adapt instructional materials for diverse student needs.
  3. Classroom Preparation:
    • Organize materials and resources for daily activities and lessons.
    • Maintain an inviting learning environment, including learning centers and displays.
  4. Small Group Instruction:
    • Conduct activities under the lead teacher's guidance, monitor student progress, and provide feedback.
  5. Individualized Instruction:
    • Provide one-on-one support to students requiring extra assistance, including implementing IEPs.
  6. Behavioral Support:
    • Reinforce classroom rules, address behavioral challenges positively, and seek guidance as needed.
  7. Technology Integration:
    • Support the use of educational technology tools and resources.
  8. Record Maintenance, Screening, and Assessment:
    • Assist in assessments, observe and document child development, and support record-keeping.
  9. Family Engagement:
    • Communicate with parents about classroom activities and student progress, assist with conferences, and participate in recruitment events.
  10. Data Analysis:
    • Collect and analyze data related to student progress to inform instructional improvements.
  11. Professional Development:
    • Attend required trainings, engage in ongoing learning, and participate in team meetings and coaching sessions.
  12. Health and Safety Compliance:
    • Follow health, safety, and emergency procedures, adhere to licensing requirements, and respect privacy laws.
Minimum Qualifications:

The Teacher's Aide must meet Federal Head Start requirements, NYC Department of Health regulations, and Universal Preschool Guidelines. Qualifications include:

  • A High School diploma or GED, with either a CDA credential or a study plan to obtain it within 24 months.
