General Description
The teachers at Urban Strategies (Refugio) programs profoundly impact students’ academic success, personal growth, and lifelong learning. Teachers provide educational services appropriate to the child’s level of development and communication skills in a structured classroom setting which concentrates primarily on the development of basic academic competencies and secondarily on English language training. Through effective instruction and mentorship, they promote positive relationships and inspire students to reach their full potential.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required in related field.
- Minimum two (2) years of successful experience in teaching pre-K – 12 grades.
- State Teacher Certified in the State where employed.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, holidays and weekends as needed.
- Basic computer skills
- Must be able to obtain Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification and First Aid Certification.
- Must be able to supervise clients indoors and outdoors.
- Bending, stooping, standing, and lifting to 30lbs required to complete daily tasks.
- Must have a Valid Driver’s License, Personal Vehicle and Liability Insurance required.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Early Childhood Education models and standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in the field of Education, Kinesiology, Elementary/Early Childhood Education
- Master’s degree in education
- Must be certified in teaching English as a Second Language or Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages.
What You will Be Doing
- Provide direct physical education and instruction, Monday through Friday to children 0-17 years of age.
- Develop lesson plans and educate students at all levels that focus on skill development, teamwork, and overall well-being, encouraging a lifelong appreciation for physical activity.
- Implement a physical education curriculum that is age appropriate, culturally competent, and reflets current educational best practices.
- Assess children’s physical abilities.
- Organize and prepare materials for daily physical and educational instruction while ensuring the inventory of PE equipment, supplies, textbooks, furniture, and other educational materials needed to assist in the provisions of instruction.
- Ensure all safety protocols are followed during all program activities.
- Promote positive sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among children.
- Maintain records of children’s physical development, progress, and participation.
- Organize sports events, after school and weekend recreational activities and competitions.
- Attend and monitor education field trips.
- Attend required staff meetings and training.
- Upon request, this role may be required to travel with child(ren), fourteen and under, to locations in the United States.
- Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or program director.
