Chesterfield County Public Schools seeks a dedicated Music Teacher to provide engaging music enrichment for students in grades 6-12. The role involves preparing lessons, assessing student learning, and collaborating with faculty to enhance music education. Candidates must hold a Virginia teaching license in Music and have at least three years of teaching experience. This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to work with special needs students.
Provides engaging, music enrichment that incorporates the 4C’s of creativity, communication, critical thinking and collaboration to self-contained students grades 6-12 once a week for 45 minutes at multiple middle and high schools.
Essential Job Functions:
Prepares for classes assigned and shows evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
Plans and delivers appropriate curriculum content to students.
Assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
Uses a specially designed curriculum of the district to plan daily instructional activities.
Maintains order within the classroom setting in accordance with division guidelines regarding student behavior management.
Collaborates with other faculty in planning and delivering instruction to students.
Communicates regularly with parents.
Ensures compliance with existing applicable federal and state statutes and local policies, regulations and guidelines related to public schools.
Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
Demonstrates mastery of the content area.
Collaborates with the building level administration, building level staff, Special Needs Lead Teachers and district level Music Instructional Specialist in the development and implementation of programs and instructional practices.
Assists with the review and identification of quality instructional materials and pedagogical best practices, in the area of music and special needs students.
Monitors various forms of documentation and records regarding special needs teaching and student learning.
Collects and uses data to make instructional decisions related to curriculum and instruction; monitors and assess curriculum, instruction and program effectiveness, and recommends and implements improvements to curriculum, instruction and program effectiveness based on on-going analysis of data.
Attends professional development and training related to Special Needs and Music programs and methodologies, staying abreast of current research.
Maintains an inventory of adaptive and other musical instruments and materials to support the educational program goals.
Adheres to policies and regulations as outlined in federal and state laws and School Board Policies and Procedures.
Performs other related duties as required.
Budgetary Responsibility:
Responsible for management of budget for designated programs. Provides recommendations to the music specialist for items that support Special Music teaching and learning.

Equipment Operation:
Operates personal computer, basic office equipment and equipment related to program instruction; educational technology such as Google classroom, google apps, Promethean Boards, Activinspire and other musical sound equipment.

Contact with all levels of CCPS personnel, students and parents.

Physical Demands:
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting up to 25 pounds. Physical agility to drive, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
Work Environment:
Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom; computer lab, gym, cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Occasional exposure to potentially infectious diseases and bloodborne pathogens is possible.
Considerable knowledge of the concepts, principles and methodologies of music and special education in a public school setting; of current curriculum development, program implementation and planning in music education learning theory, recent research and available state and local resources; child growth and development, group dynamics and related state and federal regulations. Demonstrated ability: to deliver articulate oral presentations and well written communication; to react effectively with parents, students, teachers, administrators and the community; to interpret and apply regulations; to coordinate complex programs and activities; to organize, schedule and work in multiple assigned locations; in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, program management, research ability and planning and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Working skill in the use of technology including word processing, spreadsheet and database software (Microsoft office suite and google apps).Must hold a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Music.
Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in Music.
Experience working with special programs is preferred.
Must hold a valid Virginia Driver’s license. This position requires regular travel between school facilities. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.
