Job Description:
Teaches 6th to 8th grade modern band style ensemble and/or music production programs where student leadership and creativity are prioritized. Curricular content is based on student interest, with the potential to incorporate related music, grounded in culturally relevant pedagogy.
Uses an innovative approach to lesson planning, facilitation, and colleague collaboration to promote a culturally relevant, sustaining, and inclusive approach to music teaching and learning.
Communicates and collaborates with music department colleagues to reflect on teaching and learning experiences, revise curricula, and create vertical alignment to provide sustaining, student-centered music experiences.
Possesses knowledge of child development and a drive to research and incorporate inclusive practices to promote access to high-quality music education for diverse learners.
Collaborates with school-based and departmental colleagues, utilizing student plan information to facilitate lessons with responsive and inclusive scaffolds, accommodations, and modifications. Works with classroom teachers, paraeducators, special educators, and support staff to foster an inclusive, responsive music learning environment.
Fosters positive and equitable classroom management practices, collaborates with school teams to promote consistency of school-wide systems across content areas, and advocates for relevant, high-quality music experiences.
Builds relationships with students to learn about their interests, communities, languages, and cultures. Promotes advocacy skills through music learning and teaching, fostering two-way communication with caregivers.
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree, a commitment to academic success for all students, and experience working in urban and diverse settings. Ability to interpret student performance data for instructional planning, with strong communication and teamwork skills. Bilingual (Spanish) applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
Required licenses: MUSIC PK-8, 5-12.
