Summary

Provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enables students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Develops and implements plans for curriculum program which provides for effective teaching strategies.
  2. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  3. Presents the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, Board of Trustees policies, and administrative regulations.
  4. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.
  5. Discusses students’ academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents/guardians regularly and per campus guidelines.
  6. Plans and implements instruction aligned with district philosophy, goals, and curriculum objectives.
  7. Participates in professional development opportunities.
  8. Monitors proper use and care of equipment, materials, textbooks, and facilities.
  9. Supervises educational aides and volunteers as assigned.
  10. Maintains regular attendance and keeps current in subject matter knowledge.
  11. Encourages student enthusiasm and good study habits.
  12. Provides progress reports and assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities.
  13. Models positive behavior supporting school and district mission.
  14. Creates a conducive learning environment and develops classroom discipline in accordance with guidelines.
  15. Ensures safety and proper use of resources.
  16. Assists in selecting instructional materials.
  17. Communicates effectively with students, parents, staff, and community.
  18. Participates in professional development and adheres to policies and regulations.
  19. Maintains accurate records and attends meetings.
  20. Utilizes technology and audiovisual aids in teaching.
  21. Prepares and administers assessments, maintains grade and attendance records.
  22. Addresses student behavioral and academic issues, including counseling and referrals.
  23. Coordinates class field trips and maintains classroom order and discipline.
  24. Maintains professional attire and positive public attitude.
  25. Prepares lesson plans and substitutes when absent.
  26. Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Education Teacher Only
  • Plans physical education activities to develop students’ physical and social skills.
  • Teaches sports, organizes games, and instructs on exercises and weight training.
  • Consults with students, parents, and counselors to resolve issues.
  • Manages equipment and supplies.
Remote Instruction Only

Provides distance or virtual instruction, develops lesson plans suitable for online learning, and maintains communication with students and parents through specified channels. Creates a positive virtual environment and provides feedback on student achievement.

Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise aides and volunteers, train staff, and handle work assignments and issues.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Texas teaching certificate
Skills and Abilities

Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and communicate effectively in writing and orally. Basic math skills, common sense application, and problem-solving abilities are required. Physical ability to perform duties and work environment considerations are also specified.
