Job Title: St. Joseph Montessori School Math and Science Teacher

Level: Middle School 7/8 (Secondary I)

Location: 933 Hamlet St., Columbus, OH 43201
Job Status: Salary, Exempt
Reports to: Head of School

Organizational Overview:

St. Joseph Montessori School is a Catholic Montessori School located in Columbus, Ohio, serving students 18 months through 8th grade.

We offer an alternative educational program to families in Central Ohio, serving families from 44 different zip codes. Our school is located in a vibrant and historic residential neighborhood minutes from Downtown Columbus and The Ohio State University.

Job Description:

Join the St. Joseph Montessori School team as a Math and Science teacher in our Middle School (7th and 8th Grade) environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Support the academic, social, and emotional growth of the individual student in a multi-age classroom.
2. Observe and guide the children through their learning.
3. Establish and maintain the classroom true to the Montessori philosophy, paying particular attention to the needs of students.
4. Design lessons that ignite curiosity within students while adhering to the Montessori Method and meeting State of Ohio academic standards.
5. Implement and extend the curriculum as student needs dictate.
6. Plan, prepare and maintain all units of study – including Montessori materials, thematic units, library books, etc.
7. Schedule all guest presenters and organize all field trips, chaperone the week-long school trip, and work in tandem with MS Team and Special Subject teachers.
8. Maintain accurate record keeping and planning through the use of Gradelink, communication using Bloomz, as well as posting pictures on Transparent Classroom.
9. Facilitate a respectful environment for children and adults by advocating conflict resolution and Grace and Courtesy lessons.
10. Communicate via newsletters (email) with parents about their children’s school lives every week.
11. Prepare for and schedule individual communications with all parents during the year.
12. Carefully observe and keep daily records of each student’s individual progression through the curriculum.
13. Establish a harmonious relationship with co-teachers, assistants, and interns.
14. Plan, prepare, and organize all materials for parent volunteers.
15. Assist in the planning and maintenance of the building, materials, and playground.

Education Requirements:

1. Credential from the Association Montessori Society, Association Montessori Internationale, or from a MACTE-approved Teacher Education Program (preferred).
2. Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
3. State of Ohio Teachers License (Resident Educator, 5-year professional license, or Permanent Non-Tax Certificate) in area/level of teaching.
4. CPR/First Aid certification (SJMS will provide if not already completed).
5. Willingness to complete professional development on an ongoing basis.

Position Requirements:

3. Physical ability to work around children including sitting on the floor, standing, crouching, and climbing stairs.
4. Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
