Job description

Job Title: Middle School Math & Science Teacher (Part-Time)

Reports to: Principal

Job Goal: The classroom teacher is responsible for teaching middle school students for the duration of the school year. The middle school teacher is responsible for teaching our 5th-8th grade students on a rotating schedule for Math & Science (5th/6th is together and 7th/8th is together). The middle school teacher is responsible for providing a safe-learning environment that fosters academic excellence and spiritual growth in the Catholic faith; mind, body, and soul.

About our school: Our school has small class sizes with an average of 12 students, which is every teacher's dream! The parent support in our community is amazing and is one of our staff's favorite things! The students are wonderful and love helping others and providing service to our community.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Recognizes and supports the unique Catholic Mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  2. Demonstrate effective planning skills by preparing lessons designed to implement stated goals and objectives and by incorporating school and diocesan curriculum objectives in lesson plans.
  3. Demonstrate current, thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter and be able to communicate effectively with students; be able to organize classroom learning and materials to maximize student time on tasks as well as motivate student learning.
  4. Establish a consistent disciplinary approach which promotes self-direction and positive self-image; set high standards for student behavior and manage inappropriate behavior effectively.
  5. Work effectively with all staff members to promote positive relationships with students and parents.
  6. At all times demonstrate professional responsibility in enforcing school policies and regulations.
  7. Maintain confidentiality of information, display sound judgment in dress and general behavior.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Must have strong commitment to Catholic education and model behavior aligned with St. Mary/McCormick Catholic Academy’s mission and values.
  2. Excellent communications skills including written, verbal, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  3. Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be well-organized; must be a team player.
  4. Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  5. Must complete and pass a criminal history and background check.

Education and Experience:

  1. A Bachelor degree or higher in education from an accredited university.
  2. State of Michigan Teaching Certificate or be approved to teach through a teaching program.
